Uploading to the Video Library
Using Videos on Your Thinkific Site
About This Feature
Videos can be uploaded directly to your Video Library for later use in Video Lessons, Text Lessons or on your site landing pages!
Uploading to your Video Library is great when you have multiple videos ready to go and would like to bulk upload your files! Any Videos that are uploaded directly to your course lessons will also be stored in your Video Library and can be used throughout your site.
There are also a ton of settings that you can view and customize for each video in your Video Library including:
- Preview your videos
- Edit video name
- Add video thumbnails
- Update the thumbnail image
- Enhance video security with the Private setting
- Add closed captions
- Change the color of the video controls
- Remove students’ ability to fast-forward through the video
- View video analytics
- Download videos
- Archive videos
- Delete videos
How It Works
In the Video Library, you can use the uploader to add multiple videos at once. These can be files that you have on your computer, on an FTP site, or on a cloud-based storage service like Dropbox, or Google Drive.
Videos can also be added to your site one by one when creating Video Lessons, lessons that include a text editor, or by using the Content Uploader. Videos added directly to lessons or using the Content Uploader are automatically added to your Video Library.
Videos uploaded to Thinkific are hosted with Wistia, which uses video-type detection and Smart Encoding settings so that live-action videos look great, and longer videos that require fine detail (like webinars) will be as efficient a file size as possible (for smooth playback).
After you upload a video, it is encoded and multiple versions are created for different use cases and environments (such as mobile devices). These versions are also ready to stream on the web. There will be a short processing period for all uploaded videos before they can be used on your site.
Before uploading your videos, make sure to check out our recommended specs to ensure you get the best performance out of your videos.
- From your Admin Dashboard, select Products
- Under Courses, select Video Library
- Click Upload on the top right
- Click to select files to upload or drag and drop your desired videos. Optionally use the left menu options to upload from a cloud service.
- Once your files are selected, click Upload
- Wait for the files to finish uploading before refreshing the page
- Once the upload is complete, you can navigate away from the page if needed. Videos will display as Processing for a few minutes.
- Once processing finishes, you’ll see a still from the video as the thumbnail as well as Size, Length, Uploaded and Modified date details. Your files are then ready for use!
If you have an intermittent internet connection, we recommend uploading from a cloud-based solution like Dropbox or Google Drive instead of directly from your computer. This way, if your connection cuts out part way through, it will automatically reconnect to the cloud solution to finish the upload.
