Welcome to the asset library - a centralized home for all of your media, designed to save you time and give you a single place to find and reuse the content you've already created.

About the Asset Library

The asset library is your centralized hub for storing, organizing, and reusing media - videos, images, and documents - within your Thinkific courses. Each file you upload is saved as an individual asset with its own title, description, and metadata, making it easy to find later.

  • Upload once, use anywhere: Reference the same asset across multiple lessons and courses without having to upload it again.
  • Update in one place: When you replace an asset, every course that uses it gets the updated version automatically.
  • Organize at scale: Search, sort, and filter through all of your assets without losing track of what you've uploaded.

How the Asset Library Works

You can work with the asset library in two primary locations - as a standalone management hub within your Admin Dashboard and directly within the course builder while designing lessons. With the asset library, you can upload images, videos, and documents to be used and reused across your courses.

At this time, the asset library is only available with the new course builder. Learn more about new course builder availability and its features here: Introducing Thinkific's New Course Builder

  • Standalone management hub: Accessed from your Admin Dashboard, this allows for high-level organization, including bulk uploads and comprehensive metadata management like adding titles, descriptions, and tags.
  • From the course builder: While building lessons in the new course builder, you can select existing media from the library or upload new files directly from the lesson. Any file uploaded within the course builder is automatically added to the asset library for future reuse.

Whether you are performing dedicated content maintenance or actively developing a curriculum, the asset library ensures your media remains a single source of truth across your entire platform.

Important Considerations

  • The asset library replaces the video library. All of your existing assets from the video library will be transferred to the asset library, and you will be able to manage them from here.
  • The asset library can only be accessed within courses. At this time, it is not supported in the learner hub or in other products such as digital downloads and coaching & webinars.

Accessing the Asset Library

  1. From your Admin Dashboard, select Products
  2. Select Asset Library

Here you can upload new assets as well as manage any of your uploaded assets, including editing and replacing them.

Uploading Assets to the Asset Library

To upload new assets to the asset library:

  1. From the asset library page, click Upload assets
  2. Drag and drop your desired asset(s) (or browse and select a file from your device)
Supported file types: Videos (mp4, mov, m4v) up to 2 GB, images (png, jpeg, gif) up to 20 MB, PDFs up to 25 MB, or audio (mp3, m4a, ogg, wav, aac) up to 25 MB
  3. Click Upload x assets
  4. Optional: Click + Add more to add more assets

And that’s it! Your assets will be uploaded to the asset library and are ready to use in your courses.

A maximum of 10 assets can be uploaded at a time.

Using Assets in Courses

While creating lessons in the new course builder, you can add any assets you have added to your library.

To add assets to a lesson in the course builder:

  1. Select the lesson you would like to add your assets to
  2. From the content menu, select Asset Library
  3. Search for your desired asset(s)
  4. Select the checkbox next to the asset(s) you want to add
  5. Click Add x asset(s)

Each asset will be added to your lesson as its corresponding content type based on its file type - for example, an image from the asset library will be added as an image in the lesson. Once added, you can then configure them within the lesson as you’d like!
