General
How do I get paid?
You can integrate with a payment processor to start accepting payments for your courses! Once you start accepting payment, you will receive your funds directly from your payment processor.
How do I cancel a subscription in Stripe?
The simplest way to cancel a subscription is for a student to cancel through their account. You can see instructions on that here: How can students manage their billing?
If you prefer to manually cancel a subscription, you can also complete this in Stripe. Since this process is not automated, you'll also want to make sure to expire the student's enrollment to make sure they don't have access to the course after their subscription is canceled.
How can I create a new payment in Stripe?
If you need to manually charge a student, you can create a new payment in Stripe.
Can I edit my Stripe receipt?
When integrating with Stripe, you will have various options to enable receipts for your customers directly in Stripe.
You can learn about our built-in receipt options as well as customizing Stripe receipts here: Student Order Receipts and Payment Notifications
Why is Stripe withholding my funds?
Stripe has recently updated their policy for how quickly account verification is required after a Stripe account is created, or after the information is requested by Stripe. You may see payouts being paused due to this.
What does Stripe consider a restricted business?
Stripe prohibits and restricts businesses if they fall into certain categories such as:
- Financial and professional services
- IP Infringement, regulated or illegal products, and services
- Unfair, predatory, or deceptive practices
- Products or services that are otherwise restricted by their financial partners

This means your Thinkific site can only support one currency.
Can I change the currency my courses are sold in?
If you are accepting payments with Thinkific Payments or Stripe, you can change the currency of your site!
Can I change the currency of my site if I have already accepted payment in a different currency?
We do not recommend changing currency after making your first sale, as Stripe does not allow users to make purchases in multiple currencies.
Billing & Access
Can I change a student's subscription billing date?
Thinkific's built-in payment processing does not support changing a student's subscription billing date natively. However, depending on which processor you are using, there are some workarounds available.
Does deleting a student automatically cancel any active subscriptions in Stripe?
No. If you delete a student in Thinkific that has an active subscription, their Stripe subscription will not automatically be canceled. You must also cancel the subscription in Stripe to ensure the student is not charged going forward.

Does expiring an enrollment in Thinkific automatically cancel the subscription in Stripe?
The simplest way to cancel a subscription is for a student to cancel through their account. You can see instructions on that here: How can students manage their billing?
If you prefer to manually cancel a subscription, you can also complete this in Stripe. Since this process is not automated, you'll also want to make sure to expire the student's enrollment to make sure they don't have access to the course after their subscription is canceled.

Yes! Follow the link to read more on how you can pause a student's subscription or payment plan.
What happens if my student's subscription or payment plan fails?
When an attempted payment fails, that student automatically loses access to the course content in Thinkific. The student enrollment is then marked as expired in Thinkific. You can manage failed payments for recurring payments with both Thinkific Payments and Stripe.
If a student cancels their subscription, do they lose access to my course?
If a student cancels their subscription, they will have access to the course or bundle until the next renewal or billing date occurs and no payment is made, at which time their access will be revoked.
For example, if a student ends the subscription on Sept 1 and the next billing date is Sept 30, they will have access for 30 days and then lose access on Sept 30.
If you want to manually end a student's enrollment earlier, see How to Unenroll Students.
What happens to existing students if I edit my subscription price?
If you edit the price of your subscription to a higher or lower amount in Thinkific, students who purchased before your price change will not be affected. Students already set up as subscribers will always pay the price set when they first subscribed. New students will pay the new price.
Note that this also applies to those students who are set up on payment plans.
If you want to adjust the pricing for existing students, check out: Can I update the subscription price for currently subscribed students?
What happens if I edit a previously used coupon?
If you have deleted or edited a coupon that was used for previous registrations, this will not affect your previous sign-ups. The current coupon settings will be applied to any new registrations.
What should I do about the error "The transaction was declined. Please contact the site administrator."?
This error occurs when there is an issue with your connected payment processor account and no payment was taken. The student should not try purchasing again. Read more about this error at: Why can't my students buy my course?
Refunds
How can I process a refund in Stripe?
If you need to process a refund to a customer then that can be done directly from your Stripe dashboard.
How does a refund impact the student in Thinkific?
Payments and refunds in Stripe are generally separated from Thinkific. In the case of a refund, the student will still be enrolled in the course and have access to all content.
To ensure a student does not have access to course content after a refund is processed in Stripe, a Site Admin must manually unenroll the student in Thinkific. Or, if you would prefer, you can automate the unenrollment process as per the instructions in this article: Zapier: Expire Enrollments After a Stripe Refund
Note that if you have refunded a student who originally signed up for a subscription or payment plan, you will see that they have an expiry date set for their course enrollment in Thinkific. If there is an expiry date in Thinkific, course access will automatically end on the enrollment's expiry date.
When refunding a student, do I receive a refund for Stripe's transaction fees?
There are no fees to refund a charge, but the fees from the original charge are not returned. You can learn more about Stripe's refund process here: Stripe Refunds
