How to Add a Coupon Code to an Affiliate's Link

Solution

The Affiliates feature allows Affiliates on your site to get commissions on product sales by giving each Affiliate an individual link to send to prospective customers looking to buy your courses, communities or bundles.

You can give Affiliates links with coupons already applied, as a perk for customers, and as a marketing tool for Affiliates.

Here are two options for how to set this up.

Add a Coupon to an Affiliate Link to a Course or Bundle Landing Page

1. Go to the Affiliates tab under Marketing in your Admin Dashboard.
2. Click on Edit Profile next to the Affiliate whose link you'd like to add a coupon to
3. Copy the affiliate link for the desired course or bundle from the Product links table. Your link should look similar to this: https://mysite.thinkific.com/courses/mycourse?ref=08bd3c
4. Create a coupon and copy the coupon code you chose while creating your coupon
5. Add &coupon=XXXXX to the end of your URL from Step 3
6. Replace the XXXXX with your coupon code from Step 4

Your final link should look similar to this: https://mysite.thinkific.com/courses/mycourse?ref=08bd3c&coupon=couponcode 

When a customer clicks on this link they will be taken to the product landing page, and a banner message will show that a discount has been applied. If you only have one price for your product, and you have a dynamic default button in your banner, the price in this button will update to reflect that a discount that has been applied. If you have a custom buy button, or multiple price options for your product, the customer will see the discount applied at Checkout. 

Add a Coupon to an Affiliate Link to a Product Checkout Page

1. Follow these instructions to find and copy the affiliate referral code for your desired Affiliate. The code should look similar to this:
   ?ref=8bd3c
2. Follow these instructions to copy your checkout link. Make sure to Copy Link for the desired price option if your product has multiple prices. Your link should look similar to this: https://mysite.thinkific.com/enroll/938664?price_id=1057609 
3. Create a coupon and copy the coupon code you chose while creating your coupon
4. Take your checkout link from Step 2 and add the affiliate referral code from Step 1 to the end of this URL. 
5. Check if your checkout link includes a question mark (?). Here is an example of a link that includes a question mark: 
   https://mysite.thinkific.com/enroll/938664?price_id=1057609 
6. If your checkout link includes a question mark, replace the question mark in front of your affiliate referral code with a ampersand (&). The referral code will then look similar to this: &ref=8bd3c
7. Add &coupon=XXXXX to the end of your URL from Step 6
8. Replace the XXXXX with your coupon code from Step 3

Your final link should look similar to this if your checkout link did not have a question mark: https://mysite.thinkific.com/enroll/336493?ref=8bd3c&coupon=couponcode 

Your final link should look similar to this if your checkout link did have a question mark: https://mysite.thinkific.com/enroll/938664?price_id=1057609&ref=08bd3c&coupon=couponcode
