About This Feature
Available for both free and paid products, After Purchase Flows allow you to decide where a customer will land after they purchase a product on your Thinkific site (rather than sending them directly to the default Thank You page).
By default, when a student purchases your course, community, membership or bundle, they are taken through our checkout and then sent to a default Thank You page. This default Thank You page can be customized in Site Builder, and any customizations made to the default Thank You page will appear sitewide - meaning they will apply for all products purchased on your site.
After Purchase Flow comes in handy if you want to make additional customizations to the Thank You page, send students to a Custom URL after purchase, or skip the Thank You page altogether, and send students straight to your content. It allows you to design a custom after purchase experience for each pricing option for a product.
There are a variety of reasons to use After Purchase Flow, including:
- Add custom thank you text that students will see after purchasing your product
- Add an upsell section to a Thank You page for a specific product
- Add multiple upsells per product
- Pre-sell your course/bundle/membership and redirect the buyer to a specific page
- Send students straight to their first lesson after purchase, instead of a Thank You page
How It Works
After Purchase Flow customizations are created at the product level. A New Flow can be assigned to one or more pricing options (including free) for the particular product you are editing.
When setting up a New Flow, you will be able to specify the destination page that a customer will see after they make a purchase. This destination page can be one of the following:
- A Thank You Page including custom messaging and/or upsells
- The Thinkific Course Player
- A Community
- A Custom URL
Important Considerations
- To access this feature for courses, memberships, and bundles, you must have a Site Builder theme version 1.10.2 or higher. For communities, you must have Vogue 1.28.4, Vision 1.29.4, Empire 1.30.4, or higher.
- After Purchase Flow uses our built-in checkout; you must be integrated with one of our built-in payment integrations
- If an After Purchase Flow is not set up for a particular price option, your customer will experience our default Thank You page after the purchase
- Each price can only be assigned to one Flow, however, you can assign a Flow to multiple prices. For example, if you have a one-time price of $100 and a 2-month payment plan of $50 per payment, you can create a unique Flow for each price or create one Flow that is used for both the one-time payment and payment plan.
- Translations are not supported when adding custom messaging on your Thank You page

- If you don't see your upsells when selecting Preview Thank You page, you will need to add a section your Thank You page; see Add Upsells to Your Thank You Page
After Purchase Flows with Gifting and Group Orders
Note that if you enabled Gifting or Group Orders features, your buyers might be directed to an alternate thank you page, even if you have an after purchase flow set up. If a user decides to make a Gift or a Group Order purchase, they will be directed to a thank you page with the gift or seat management options.
How to Create an After Purchase Flow for Your Product
To get started, you'll need to navigate to your product builder and create a new flow. See the instructions below for how to navigate to your After Purchase Flow settings for courses, communities and bundles.
Create a New Flow for Your Course
- From your Admin Dashboard, select Products
- Select Courses
- Click on a specific course in the Course Overview
- Select the After purchase tab
- Select Add flow on the left side
- Under Flow name, name your flow as desired
- Under Prices, check off the box left of the price/prices you want this flow applied to
- Next you'll see a dropdown menu with flow options. See instructions below for how to customize each destination option.
Create a New Flow for Your Community
- From your Admin Dashboard, select Products
- Select Communities
- Locate your community, click the ellipses (3 dot icon), and select Edit
- Select the After purchase tab
- Select Add flow on the left side
- Under Flow name, name your flow as desired
- Under Prices, check off the box left of the price/prices you want this flow applied to
- Next you'll see a dropdown menu with flow options. See the instructions below for how to customize each destination option.
Create a New Flow for Your Bundle
- From your Admin Dashboard, select Sales
- Select Bundles
- Click on a specific bundle
- Select the After purchase tab
- Select Add flow on the left side
- Under Flow name, name your flow
- Under Prices, check off the box left of the price/prices you want this flow applied to
- Next you'll see a dropdown menu with flow options. See the instructions below for how to customize each destination option.
After Purchase Flow Options
We have the following After Purchase Flow options:
- Customize Messaging and Upsells on the Thank You Page
- Send Students to the Course Player
- Send Student to a Community
- Send Students to a Custom URL
If any functionality appears to be missing when setting up your flow, for example you don't see a custom thank you page, make sure to update your theme version.
How to Customize the Thank You page
This section covers how to customize the messaging that appears on your Thank You page for each product type, as well as add product upsells.
- Once you have created your flow, select Thank You page from the destination dropdown menu
- Check off Display custom thank you messaging
- Under Custom message heading, add your desired text
- Under Custom message subheading, add additional custom text

(Optional) Check off Upsell additional products
If you don't see your upsells when selecting Preview Thank You page, see Add Upsells to Your Thank You Page. - Under Heading, add additional custom text
- Under Additional Products, select one or more products to display as upsells
- Click Add
- Click Save to apply changes
- Select Preview Thank You page to view a sample
The default Start Learning button on the Thank You page will take students to the course in the Course Player. Try it out with a test student account!
You can also check out the Confetti Cannon app in the Thinkific App Store to celebrate a new sale and your new student's purchase decision by showering them with confetti right after their purchase.
How to Send Students to the Course Player
This will send students straight to your course content once they complete the checkout. Students will not see a Thank You page, but will be taken straight to the Course Player to view the first lesson of your course. Sending students to the Course Player is available for courses and bundles.
- Once you have created your flow, select Course Player from the destination dropdown menu
- Select Save
How to Send to a Community Page
This option is currently available for communities. You can send students straight to your Community after they purchase to encourage them to start interacting right away!
- Once you have created your flow, select This Community from the destination dropdown menu
- Select Save
How to Send to a Custom URL
This will redirect customers to a page that you specify after they input their payment details on the checkout page.
- Once you have created your flow, select Custom URL from the destination dropdown menu
- Under URL, insert your desired URL (must include https://)
- Select Save
We recommend ensuring the custom URL includes a confirmation that the payment was successful and instructions on how to access the course.
If you would like to design the page that a student will see after purchasing on your Thinkific site, a custom page works well for this.
