About This Feature

Leads are visitors to your Thinkific site who submitted their contact information to learn more about you and your business or in exchange for a digital download or access to an event. Leads are foundational when it comes to marketing your product - they create the base of your email list, as they expressed their interest in hearing more from you! Once you collected leads, you can start emailing and marketing to them, building the relationship and encouraging them to check out and purchase your products, even before your launch! Learn more about it here: Launch and Market Your Course.

Currently, leads can be generated through:

The Lead Capture Section is available on theme version 1.10.2 and above. If you do not see the Lead Capture Section, update your theme.

Access Your Leads

All leads generated through Thinkific can be tracked and accessed directly in your Admin Dashboard through the Leads table!

  1. From your Admin Dashboard, select Marketing
  2. Select Leads

The Leads table includes the following information:

  1. Email
  2. Status: indicates whether the lead has consented to receive marketing email
    1. Subscribed: the lead has submitted the form AND, if located in the EU, has consented to receive marketing emails by checking the appropriate box when submitting their contact information.
If a lead was collected through the abandoned cart functionality, the Subscribed status means the lead checked the consent box during checkout.
    2. Unsubscribed: the lead is located in the EU and has not consented to receive marketing emails when submitting their contact information by leaving the box empty.
If a lead was collected through the abandoned cart functionality, the Unsubscribed status means the lead has not checked the consent box during checkout or unsubscribed later.
  3. Name

Note that name is not collected on the Lead Capture Section and using the abandoned cart functionality.

  4. Date Added
  5. Source: indicates whether a lead was captured using a funnel such as a specific digital download, a specific coaching or webinar product, or during a checkout for a specific product.

To see the details about the specific page where the lead is captured, export the Leads file.

Export Your Leads

If you would like to export your leads so you can import them into email marketing, you can do so through the Leads Table or the Settings page.

The Leads export will be sent to the email associated with your account as a .csv file and will include the following information:

  • Email address
  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Whether the lead consented to receive marketing emails
  • Page URL that the lead was captured on
  • Date Collected

Export Your Leads through the Leads Table

  1. From your Admin Dashboard, select Marketing
  2. Select Leads
  3. Click Export Leads

Export Your Leads through Setting

  1. From your Admin Dashboard, select Settings
  2. Select the Orders & accounts tab
  3. Find the Leads at the top of this page.

If you don't see this option, it just means you haven't captured any leads just yet! You can always enter your personal email on your site lead capture section to test it out.

  4. Click Export Leads to generate a .csv of all emails captured

Emails from Thinkific are sent from noreply@notify.thinkific.com or notifications@notify.thinkific.com. If you are using Email White Labelling, students will receive emails from the custom email domain you have set up with Thinkific.

New Lead Notifications

You also have the option to receive a notification every time a new lead signs up on your site! Learn how to turn on your notifications here: Automated Email Notifications.

Convert Your Leads

Once you collected the leads, you are ready to convert them into paying customers! You can do that by utilizing built-in Thinkific's Email Automation platform or by sending your leads to an email marketing platform of your choice!

Convert Leads Using Email Automation

Email Automation is the built-in Thinkific feature that allows you to send email sequences to your contacts who fit certain criteria. The Sales Flow sequence allows you to target leads and send them a series of multiple emails with the goal of converting them into paying customers.

This means you can focus more on creating and teaching, while we streamline your path to business growth. All the tools you need for effective email marketing are integrated in one place, simplifying your process and freeing up your time - no expertise required.

Learn more here: Engage Your Audience with Email Automation.

Convert Leads Using Abandoned Cart Emails

The abandoned cart feature automatically sends a follow-up email to students who abandon their cart, helping you convert missed opportunities into sales. By automating follow-up emails, this tool helps you recover lost sales and boost conversion rates, all behind the scenes without any extra effort from you.

If you want to handle abandoned cart recovery through your own email platform or CRM (such as Klaviyo, ActiveCampaign, or HubSpot), you can use the cart.abandoned webhook instead of the built-in abandoned cart email.

The abandoned cart functionality is available on paid plans to creators using TCommerce. To access the abandoned cart feature, as well as other great TCommerce features, enable Thinkific Payments on your account: Thinkific Payments.

Learn more here: TCommerce: Abandoned Cart Emails.

Send Your Leads to Other Platforms

Collected leads will automatically be synced to the Mailchimp app. At the moment, other email marketing apps do not support automatic lead syncing.

If you would like to send your leads to email marketing or other platforms you can use the New Lead trigger in Zapier or a New Lead webhook.

Alternatively, you can manually export the .csv file and upload it to the platform of your choice.

Marketing Analytics: Leads Dashboard

The Leads Dashboard, part of Thinkific Analytics, provides comprehensive visibility into top-of-funnel page views, lead capture and student conversion. This dashboard allows you to analyze and improve your lead generation and conversion efforts.

The Leads Dashboard enables you to monitor lead capture trends over time, identify the most successful lead capture sources, keep tabs on the number of leads generated through lead magnets, and see how many leads converted into students.

Learn more about the dashboard here: Thinkific Analytics: Marketing Dashboards.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have captured new Leads. But what do I do now?

You might be wondering how to convert your leads into paying customers. There are many approaches to this and we recommend checking out our Blog for some ideas:

Use Email Automation to Convert Leads into Repeatable Online Course Buyers

Why do some of my leads in the exported report not have a Page URL?

Typically, Leads that don't have an associated Page URL are created by software applications that are programmed to distribute bulk spam messages across various web pages. You can simply ignore these leads in your exported report.

How do I know which page a lead was captured on? Where can I see where my leads are coming from?

If you have more than one lead capture section on your site or you are using several lead capture features, you can see what page the leads are coming from from the Leads Table. If you want detailed information, you can see it byexporting the .csv file. This file will contain a Page URL column that will show which page that lead was captured on.

Why don't I see the option to export my leads when I go into my Settings?

The option to Export leads from the Settings menu will not be visible if no emails have been captured yet.
