Question
- What do the buttons do in the Text Editor?
Solution
Some of the Thinkific lesson types allow you to add text - either as standalone lesson content or to accompany other lesson materials - using our WYSIWYG (what-you-see-is-what-you-get) text editor.
This includes:
- Text Lessons
- Video Lessons
- Survey Lessons
- Quiz Lessons
- Audio Lessons
- Downloads Lessons
- Brillium Exams
- Assignment Lessons
The text editor is also included in the editing view of several Site Builder sections.
The text editor allows you to add video, image, and audio files, and to create clickable links, among other options. Here's a guide to the menu in the text editor:
Text Formatting
The first buttons in the text editor menu allow you to adjust text formatting. From left to right these buttons control: headings, font size, font, text color, bold text, italicize text, underline text. We don't currently have a built-in option to add any additional fonts.
Paragraph Formatting
The next set of buttons allow you to adjust the paragraph formatting. From left to right these buttons control: bulleted (unordered) lists, numbered (ordered) lists, paragraph alignment, decrease indent, increase indent. We don't currently have a built-in option to create hierarchical lists.
Multimedia Content
The next set of buttons allows you to add multimedia content from your computer files, Thinkific video library, and online sources. From left to right these buttons control: images, videos, audio files, and other file uploads. Click for more information about adding multimedia content in the text editor.
Note: We recently released a security update for the text editor. The Upload File button is now restricted to document and media files.
Other Buttons
The remaining buttons, from top left to bottom right, allow you to: format quoted text; create a hyperlink; create a table; add a horizontal line; remove indent and alignment formatting; undo actions; redo actions; open the HTML code view; expand the text editor to full screen.
Important Considerations
- Copy-and-pasting text from another word processor into the text editor may cause unexpected formatting. For this reason, we suggest creating text in the text editor or removing formatting before adding text in this way.
- JavaScript interferes with the Thinkific Course Player. As a result, it can't be added to lessons using the code view in the text editor.
