Thinkific order receipts can be automatically sent to your students when they make a purchase on your Thinkific site. These can be toggled on or off. You can also set up additional payment notification options if you are integrated with Stripe or PayPal.
Emails from Thinkific are sent from noreply@notify.thinkific.com or notifications@notify.thinkific.com. If you are using Email White Labelling, students will receive emails from the custom email domain you have set up with Thinkific.
Thinkific Order Receipts
Thinkific order receipts are turned on by default to automatically email a student's receipt when they make a purchase on your site for users with Thinkific Payments set as their default payment processor. They can be turned on for creators using Stripe or PayPal.
Order receipts will be sent for all payment types (one time payments, payment plans or subscriptions). Subscription emails will only be sent after the first payment, for payments made through Stripe and Paypal; view the sections below for more information on setting up recurring (payment plan and subscription) receipts through these payment processors.
Here's an example of a Thinkific order receipt email that your students will receive:
If you are using Thinkific Payments to accept payments, students receipts will additionally contain the following:
- Sales Tax and Tax information (if applicable)
- Gift recipient information and gift URL (if a buyer has made a gift order)
- Seat management options (if a buyer has made a group order)

Thinkific Refund Receipts
With Thinkific Payments, you can also refund students directly from your Thinkific dashboard and students will receive and refund receipt. Thinkific refund receipts are not available with Stripe or Paypal.

To Enable/Disable Thinkific Order and Refund Receipts
- From your Admin Dashboard, select Users
- Select Notification Emails
- Select Student
- Toggle on/off Receipts: Send students a receipt when they make a purchase
Important Considerations
- Whether you are using a Performance Checkout or Two-Step Checkout, an order receipt is sent for all enrollments including paid and free courses. There is currently no option to turn this feature off.
- An order receipt is not sent for enrollments in free previews.
- An order receipt will be sent for gift and group order seat redemptions.
- An order receipt will be sent for a paid course that has been discounted with a coupon.
- For a record of all of your orders, please see your Orders Report.
- Students can view their Order History from their Student Account and Profile. Students also have the option to print order summaries from this area of their account.
- We don't currently have the option to customize this receipt.
- Consider enabling/customizing receipts in Stripe.
Site Owner Order Notifications
As the Site Owner, you can enable order notifications to receive an email when a student completes an order.
Site Owners and Site Admins are automatically notified by email when a student completes a free or paid order. This way, you do not miss new orders even if they are free!
Here's an example of the order notification you will receive:
To Enable Site Owner Order Notifications:
- From your Admin Dashboard, select Users
- Select Notification Emails
- Select Admin
- Toggle on New order
- Click Save
These notifications are only sent to the Site Owner. If you would like additional members on your team to receive this, we recommend setting up a forwarding rule in your email provider. If you would like to add your vote to this feature request, please let us know!
Thinkific Payments Notifications
Users who have set up Thinkific Payments as their payment processor will have both one-time and recurring (payment plan and subscription) order receipts emailed to their students.
Refund receipts will also automatically be sent for Thinkific Payments refunds.
Receipts are toggled on for Thinkific Payments users by default however, you are able to turn this option off if you prefer to send manual receipts.
Stripe Payment Notifications
When integrating with Stripe, you will have various options to enable receipts for your customers directly in Stripe.

PayPal Payment Notifications
When integrating with PayPal, you and your customers will receive notifications by default. You can adjust your personal notification settings under Account Settings > Notifications in PayPal.
