When you use Thinkific Payments to process your payments, we partner with Stripe to make it happen. For example, if you're a customer based in the US or Canada, you'll be charged a fee of 2.9% plus 30 cents for every successful credit card payment. It's a straightforward and hassle-free way to get paid for your hard work!
The transaction fees associated with payments processed through Thinkific Payments differ depending on the country where your business operates, a student's location, a payment method the student uses to pay for their product, and whether the Sales Tax & VAT solution is used to determine the applicable tax.

Sales Tax and VAT Solution Fees
There is a 0.5% fee for every transaction where tax is assessed, i.e. every non-zero dollar transaction in which the student is located in the United States, Canada, the UK, and the EU. This means that the fee applies even when the system calculates the tax rate as 0% (due to the student’s location, product’s tax category, or student’s exemption status). The fee is based on the total amount paid by your student (including product price and tax).
The fee does not apply to:
- Free orders
- Transactions where a 100% off coupon was applied
- Transactions from students located outside of the United States, Canada, the UK, and the EU
- Transactions from students in the UK and the EU in a jurisdiction where the buyer location is not a jurisdiction where the seller is registered for tax

Refunds to Students
There are no fees to refund a charge. However, the fees from the original charge are not returned. This is true for full and partial refunds.

To see how much you are being charged on any particular transaction, you can check your Orders Report: the Fees column will display any fees associated with a particular Order, and the Provider column will show who processed the payment. For a further fee breakdown, click on an individual transaction in the Transaction Report.
You can also access your Payout Report to view your payout status and the transaction fees.
