Group Experiences lets Thinkific Plus customers deliver a distinct, tailored Learner Hub experience to each learner group. It's made up of two components that work together: a custom catalog (a curated list of products for a group) and a learner hub version (branded logo, colors, and navigation for a group) - without standing up a separate Thinkific site.

Applies to:

  • Plan: Thinkific Plus
    • Custom catalogs are included with all Thinkific Plus plans
    • Learner hub versions (branding customization) are available as a paid add-on exclusively for Thinkific Plus customers
  • Role: Site Owner, Site Admin
  • Platform: Web (Learner Hub required)

How Group Experiences Works

Group experiences are made up of two independent capabilities that tie directly to your existing Thinkific groups - there's no separate configuration system and no custom domain required. You can set up either capability on its own, or both together for a fully tailored group experience:

  • Custom catalog: A curated set of published products that a group's learners are allowed to see and access. Instead of showing every published product, the Learner Hub catalog for that group displays only the products you've selected for it, and learners in that group can only enroll in or access products from that curated list. Custom catalogs are available to all Plus customers with no limit on how many you can create.
  • Learner hub version: A branded configuration of styles (logo, primary color, font, corner radius) and navigation. When you assign a learner hub version to a group, every learner in that group automatically sees the Learner Hub and Course Player rendered with that group's branding. Learner hub versions are a purchasable add-on, and the number you can create depends on how many you've purchased.

Learner hub versions are available as an add-on for Thinkific Plus customers. If you're already on a Plus plan, reach out to your dedicated Customer Success Manager to learn more.

Important Considerations

  • Learners who belong to multiple customized groups see a single branded experience.
  • A custom catalog can only be assigned to one group at a time. A learner hub version, on the other hand, can be assigned to as many groups as you'd like.
  • Custom domains per group are not supported - all groups share the account's existing domain.
  • Learner hub versions are limited based on the amount you've purchased. Once your account reaches its learner hub version limit, you'll be prompted to purchase additional versions before creating a new one.
  • Group-level billing, payments, and storefronts are not yet supported.
  • This does not replace Plus Portal for customers who need a fully isolated site (separate URL, language, and backend) per audience.

How to Set Up a Custom Catalog for a Group

For each of your groups, you can create a curated selection of published products that will be displayed in the Catalog page of their Learner Hub version:

  1. From the Admin Dashboard, go to Users
  2. Select Groups
  3. Select your desired group
  4. Select the Group catalog tab
  5. Under Catalog of products available to group members, select Custom catalog
  6. Search for and select your desired products from the drop-down
  7. Click Save

A custom catalog can only be linked to one group at a time. If you want multiple groups to share the same curated list of products, you'll need to set up the custom catalog separately for each group.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this replace the need for a custom domain per audience?

No. Group experiences brands the Learner Hub per group within one account and domain - it doesn't provision separate domains. If you need a fully isolated site per audience, we recommend exploring multiple Thinkific environments instead. Learn more: Creating Multiple Thinkific Environments

What happens if a learner is in more than one group experience?

Learners can only use one version of the learner hub. If they’re in more than one group with a version assigned to it, they will use the version from the latest group they joined.

Can I assign one custom catalog to multiple groups?

No - a custom catalog can only be assigned to a single group. If you want the same set of products available to multiple groups, you'll need to create a matching custom catalog for each group. Learner hub versions don't have this limitation and can be assigned to as many groups as you'd like.
