Question
- Can I take an initial payment from students who want to purchase my course, bundle, or community?
Solution
You may want to take a deposit from students in situations where you are offering limited spaces on your course, community, or bundle, or (for example) in the case of a special request from a student.
One option would be to arrange payment outside of Thinkific, or manually through Stripe. Once they have paid their deposit, you can:
- Provide the student with a coupon discounting the price of the product or,
- Send them a link for enrollment to the course with the coupon already applied.
The option you choose will depend on whether you are charging only one amount for deposit, or if you will be offering a flexible deposit amount and creating a unique coupon each time based off of the deposit amount paid.
For courses, you can create a one-time course for the price of the deposit and provide the student with the Checkout Link to the course, where the purchase of this course can be treated as the deposit. From there, it's up to you whether you would like to provide the student with immediate access to the course, or wait until the remainder of the course price can be paid.
