Passing grade requirements are only available in the Classic Course Builder. This feature is not yet supported in the New Course Builder.
You can require learners to achieve a passing grade before a quiz lesson is marked as complete. Learners will still be able to navigate to the next lesson or chapter, but will need to pass all required quizzes before they can reach 100% course completion.
If you want learners to achieve a passing grade before moving on to the next chapter, you can also set the quiz as a prerequisite lesson.
How to Add a Passing Grade Requirement
- Within a Quiz Lesson, scroll down to Lesson Settings.
- Check the box beside This quiz requires a passing grade.
- Enter the Passing grade percentage.
- (Optional) Check Allow question explanations to show under Lesson Settings if you want to provide learners with information immediately after they submit their answers. Explanations display regardless of whether the learner answered correctly.
- Click Save.
Important Considerations
- Learners will not be able to reach 100% course completion unless they have passed all quizzes where a passing grade is required.
- When a passing grade is required, the explanation feature is deactivated by default to prevent learners from receiving correct answers before retaking the quiz. You can re-enable it under Lesson Settings.
- If a passing grade is added to a quiz after some learners have already completed it, their completion percentage will not change. However, their pass/fail status will update. Affected learners will need to retake the quiz and pass with the new minimum grade to receive a certificate.
