What is a Learning Path?
A learning path is a collection of courses arranged in a specific way, allowing students to follow a predetermined sequence of courses. Creating learning paths ensures that your students get access to the right content at the right time and know exactly what steps they need to take to achieve their learning goals.
Set Up a Learning Path using the Learning Paths Feature
The easiest way to create a learning path is to use our Learning Paths feature! This feature allows you to quickly create a curated student experience to engage with course content in an organized way. No need for workarounds - build directly in Thinkific, this feature allows you to guide your students through their learning content and even assign a certificate after the completion of the whole path.
Learn more about this feature here: Learning Paths.
Set Up a Learning Path Using Course Completion Emails
You can also create a learning path by defining the order students enroll in your courses using our Hidden course and course completion emails features. With this manual setup, you will be defining what courses are visible to students at specific times in their course journey.
Set Up Hidden Courses
You'll want to make sure that the first course available in your learning path is the only one displayed on your site to ensure this is the first course students purchase and enroll in. The courses that follow should all be set to Hidden. Hidden courses do not display publicly on your site and are only accessible by direct link to the course landing page.
Course Completion Emails and Messaging
You can customize the course completion email and course completion message that students will see at the end of each course in your learning path to contain a link to the course landing page of the following course in your path.
This way students will know exactly which course to enroll in next! You will need to make sure to customize this for each course included in your learning page.
Note that by default the course completion message might already include learning product suggestions.
Check out the following examples of what that could look like!
Course Completion Email
We also recommend customizing and turning on your course completion email. Make sure to include a link to the course landing page of the next course in your learning path!
Course Completion Message
The course completion message can be fully customized as desired using our Text editor. Feel free to include images and videos to encourage students to continue to the next course!
Your student will see this message in the Course Player when they reach 100% completion:
Student Experience
Clicking on the course landing page link in your completion email or message will redirect the student to the landing page of your next course. Your student can simply enroll in this course and continue learning!
Important Considerations
- If you are creating a learning path using course completion emails, you will need to manually edit all completion emails to include the link to the relevant course landing page.
- If you are creating a learning path using course completion emails, your students will need to enroll in each course individually.
- If you are creating a learning path using course completion emails and plan on issuing a certificate on the completion of the path, you will need to set it up manually: Can I issue a Thinkific Certificate for the completion of a Bundle?
