Overview
Only Site Owners can cancel a Thinkific subscription.
You can cancel your subscription or change your plan at any time.
Canceling your subscription will prevent any future subscription payments, and you will lose access to any paid features at the end of your billing cycle. Any add-on features will be immediately unavailable upon cancelation. Your site will still be available and your students will still be able to access their purchased products.
Before Canceling Your Subscription
Before you cancel your Thinkific paid plan, go through the list below and make sure you have completed all of the steps listed here. Once you have completed all of the steps and are ready, you can proceed with cancelling your subscription.
- Remove your custom domain as your Primary domain. This will not be accessible once you cancel your paid plan.
- Manually cancel any recurring/subscription payments from your users. If the recurring subscriptions are active, students will continue to get charged but will lose access to their product at their next billing cycle.
- Optionally, change your site name and URL if you no longer want anyone to find it. If you have given out the URL previously, you can simply update it to make sure previous visitors won't see it.
- Communicate changes to your students - see the Student Experience section below to learn what happens when a paid plan is cancelled.
How to Cancel Your Subscription
- From your Admin Dashboard, select Account
- Click Account Management
- Click Manage Subscription
- Select Cancel Plan
- Fill out confirmation popups to complete the cancellation
- Your account will now be downgraded
What Happens When I Cancel My Thinkific Subscription?
When you cancel your Thinkific subscription, you lose access to your Thinkific account features at the end of your billing cycle. Any add-on features will be immediately unavailable upon cancelation.
You will no longer be able to access, edit, or interact with any areas of Thinkific, including:
- Your Admin Dashboard
- Your learning products
- Your landing pages and product pages
- Your order, transaction, and user tables
Other paid features, such as a custom domain, bundles, memberships, etc will no longer work.
You can upgrade if you need to regain access to any of the features.
Training Site
Your access to the courses on the Thinkific Training Site is based on your subscription, so if you cancel your paid plan, you will lose access to courses available on that plan. If or when you upgrade back to a paid plan, this will reinstate your access to the courses associated with the plan level and any progress you had will be kept.
Student Experience
If your students are enrolled in learning products, they will continue to have access and will continue to get charged. However, you will not be able to adjust student information, edit student subscriptions, edit any course content, or moderate your communities.
If you enabled a Mobile app solution on your site, your students will no longer be able to access your site through the app. They will need to use the browser version instead.
Deleting Your Account
Only Site Owners can delete a Thinkific account.
We don't usually delete (or recommend deleting) accounts, as this permanently removes any content you've created on Thinkific. If you ever change your mind, you will have to start again from scratch - you won't be able to come back and work from where you left off.
Instead of permanently deleting your account, we recommend the following:
- Change Your Site Name and URL to something different if you have given out the URL previously, and don't want anyone to come across your site once it's cancelled.
- Follow the instructions above to cancel your paid plan so there are no monthly fees associated with your site.
How to Permanently Delete Your Account
If you would still like us to go ahead and delete your account permanently, you'll need to follow the steps below:
- First, ensure that you have canceled any active recurring or subscription payments from your users. Learn how to cancel the recurring payments processed through Thinkific Payments here - if you are using a third-party payment provider, make sure to cancel those payments with that provider.
-
Cancel your paid plan. Accounts on active subscription plans cannot be deleted.
Note that depending on your billing date, you might still have access to your paid plan features until the end of your billing period. If you would like to proceed with the deletion, you will forfeit access to these features.
-
Log into your Thinkific account to
contact the Support team.
Include the following information in your inquiry:
- Your Thinkific URL
- Confirmation that you would like the account deleted and you understand this action is permanent, immediate, and irreversible
Once our team has received your request, they will respond to confirm that your account has been deleted.
Frequently Asked Questions
Make sure you read through these FAQ questions before downgrading or deleting your account!
Are my users still charged once I cancel or delete my Thinkific account?
Yes. Any users on subscription plans or making recurring payments of any type will still be billed even if your Thinkific account is canceled or deleted.
For this reason, it is important to ensure you cancel or stop all recurring or subscription-type payments from your users before canceling or deleting your account - regardless of which payment processor you use.
I want to delete/archive a product from my account, can I do that?
Depending on the product, you might be able to archive or delete the product. Learn more here: How to Archive Your Products.
Note that certain products cannot be archived. Instead, they can be set to an unpublished state so users won't have access to them.
I have canceled my paid plan but changed my mind. Can I resubscribe to the same plan again?
If you have already canceled your paid plan and still within your current billing cycle, you may not see the option to re-subscribe to your previous subscription. In this case, you have the following options:
- Wait until the end of the billing period and resubscribe to the same paid plan.
- Upgrade or downgrade your paid plan - this change will take place immediately.
