Frequently Asked Questions

About This Feature

The Timecodes feature enables you to add clickable timestamps within your Video Lessons. These timestamps act like a table of contents and give students the ability to navigate directly to specific sections of a video. This is particularly useful for longer videos, or in cases where you want to emphasize particular segments.

With Timecodes, you'll have:

  • Enhanced Navigation: Allow students to jump directly to specific moments during Video Lessons.
  • Improved Engagement: Provide a visual outline of your video's content and encourage students to explore topics of interest.
  • Increased Watch Time: By highlighting key segments, students are more likely to watch video lessons in their entirety.

Important Considerations

  • Timecodes work with videos hosted on Thinkific's Video Library, YouTube, and Loom.
  • This feature is designed for use within video lessons in the Thinkific Course Player.
  • You must ensure that your timecodes are formatted correctly (e.g., 00:00, 01:23, 10:45) to function properly.

Step 2: Add Timecodes to Your Video Lessons

From the Admin Dashboard:

  2. Select Courses
  3. Select the course you would like to edit
  4. Select the Video Lesson you want to add timecodes to
  5. Under Add text, enter your timecodes using the following format:

    02:15 Part 1 1: Getting Started
    05:30 Part 2: Analysis
    10:45 Conclusion

Each line should start with the timestamp (in the MM:SS or HH:MM:SS format), followed by a space and the description.

  6. Click Save lesson

Once saved, these timecodes will appear as clickable links under the video within the lesson, allowing students to jump to the specified times.

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I format the timecodes incorrectly?

Incorrectly formatted timecodes (e.g., missing leading zeros or incorrect separators) may not function as clickable links. Ensure you use the MM:SS or HH:MM:SS format.

Do I need to install the Timecodes PowerUp for each course?

No - once installed, the Timecodes PowerUp is available across all courses in your site.
