Question
- Can I prevent students from creating accounts themselves?
- Can I hide the Create an Account button?
- I want to stop students from signing up
- Prevent sign ups
Solution
By default, visitors to your site can create their own user accounts. However, there are many situations where you might want to prevent this. For example:
- You conduct B2B sales and sell to other companies
- You create user accounts manually or only accept students who meet specific criteria
- You are not ready to launch your site yet
- You only sell Private courses
If this is the case, you can prevent users and students from creating accounts by hiding the Create a New Account option.
Hide the Create a New Account Option from the Sign Up Page
- From your Admin Dashboard, select Settings
- Select Orders & accounts
- Under the Sign in / Sign up setting section, find the Create New Account section
- Uncheck the Enable Create a New Account box
- Click Save
When enabled, the Create a New Account option will not be visible on the Sign-In page.
Remove Other Sign-Up Options
Depending on your setup, you might need to take additional steps to prevent users from creating an account:
- Remove the Sign-Up page link from the site header, if you have added it previously: Customize Your Site Header.
- Disable Social Sign-in options: Login with Facebook, Google, LinkedIn and Apple.
- Confirm that the Sign-Up page link is removed from your marketing materials or site pages.
Add Lead Capture
If you want to prevent users from creating an account because you are not ready to launch yet, do not miss out on the opportunity to convert those interested in your product offerings into leads! Learn more about how to capture lead emails here: How to Generate Leads and Capture Emails.
Important Considerations
- Hiding the Create a New Account option from the Sign-In page will not remove the Sign-Up page, it can still be accessed via a direct link.
- If Social Sign-In options are enabled, visitors can use them to create accounts, even when the Create a New Account option is hidden.
