Solution
While we don't currently have a built-in option for opening a link from a PDF lesson in a new tab, the way in which links open may be something you can control when creating the PDFs for your lessons. Here's an article from Adobe on this!
Otherwise, you can suggest that students hold down the Ctrl key (for Windows) or the Command key (for Mac) when clicking on links in a PDF.
