Creator Experience and Customization
Basic Functionality
Can students do everything on the app without going to the web version?
The app is considered an additive complement to the web experience. From our research, students want to use the app for learning on the go and accessing creators' content in the most convenient way for them. This can include lessons, interacting in communities, and finding out what’s going on via notifications.
Students (depending on their enrolment) will be able to spend the majority of time on the app, however, they will still need to access the web to complete actions, such as:
- enrolling in / purchasing learning products*
- participating in live events
- updating their account / accessing certificates
*In-App Purchases are exclusively available to creators using Branded apps. If you are interested, check out our Branded Mobile app solution!
What are some unique Mobile features?
See this article for the list of exclusive Mobile features: Mobile-Only Features.
Does the Thinkific Mobile app work everywhere or are there location limitations?
There are no regional access limitations. We are global, so the Thinkific Mobile app works everywhere Thinkific does.
What are the operating system requirements?
For mobile device operating system requirements, see: OS (Operating System) Requirements for the Thinkific Mobile App.
Will my users be able to access both my Courses and Communities on the App?
Yes! Your users will be able to access both communities and courses, however, there are some features that are not currently supported. To learn more, check out Supported Course Features, Supported Community Features.
Can I hide my school from the search results in the Thinkific Mobile app login screen?
Students are able to search for all Thinkific schools that have enabled a Thinkific Mobile app feature from the login screen. It is not possible to hide a specific school from this list. To hide your school, you would need to disable the Mobile app feature. Please note that this will prevent all students from accessing your site via a mobile app.
If you are just testing the app and using a test site with no students or a sandbox site, another option is to give your school an obscure name, so it cannot be easily found by others.
If hiding your school from the search result is important to you, we recommend considering a Branded mobile app solution: Maximize Your Brand Potential With the Branded Mobile App.
My student has logged in to the app, but they do not see any courses or communities they are enrolled in?
Your students will need to make sure they are using the right email when logging in or using the same login option that they used to create an account.
Specifically, if a student created an account using one option (e.g. an email), but is signing in using Apple SSO with the Hide My Email feature enabled, they will create a new account instead of accessing their original one. In cases where this happens, you can always delete the duplicate student account.
See more troubleshooting tips here: Mobile App Troubleshooting.
Courses
Can my students access content offline?
No, at the moment, the Thinkific Mobile App does not support the delivery of content offline. You can allow your students to download certain lesson content (videos, PDFs, audio) and they can view it directly on their devices.
We are working hard on bringing the ability to access content offline to the mobile app! Stay tuned for more updates: Mobile App Recent Updates.
Can my users download files from lessons?
Yes! Both Downloads and PDF lesson types are available on the Mobile App. Additionally, you can allow your students to download certain lesson content (videos, PDFs, audio) and they can view it directly on their devices. To learn more about supported lesson types within your Courses, check out Supported Course Features.
Is there a workaround you recommend for on-lesson discussions?
At this time we do not plan to support on-lesson discussion in the app. For creators looking to facilitate course and lesson discussions, we encourage you to create a Community space linked to your course material. This will allow your students to easily access a community from within a course and vice versa, keeping the conversation going.
Will Webhooks, such as Lesson Completion, Enrollment Completed, etc. be triggered when lessons or courses are completed via the app? Will it work with Zapier Lesson Completed or Course Completed triggers?
Yes, any time a student completes lessons or courses on the Mobile app, their progress is updated, similar to how it would be on the web version of Thinkific. This means that webhooks that use a Lesson Completed or an Enrollment Completed event or Zapier using a Lesson Completed or a Course Completed triggers will fire.
Does the course progress in the app transfer to the web version and vice versa?
Yes. If a student completes a lesson on the mobile app, it will be marked as complete in the web version as well. This is also true for the reverse.
Communities
Can community members upload media to their posts using the Mobile App?
Yes! Community members can add media, videos, and files to their posts using the Mobile App. To learn more about how your users will experience communities on the Mobile App, check out Communities in the Mobile App (Student Resource).
Can community members unsubscribe from in-app or push notifications or choose which notifications they want to receive?
It is not possible to unsubscribe from push, in-app, or web app notifications or customize which push or in-app notifications your community members will receive. They can unfollow specific posts individually if they do not want to get updates about new comments or replies. They can also unsubscribe from all email community notifications by following the instructions here: Community Guide (Student Resource).
Why do my community members not receive push notifications?
Your community members need to ensure that the Thinkific Mobile app has permission to send notifications. They can enable these permissions within the app, see the instructions here: Communities in the Mobile App (Student Resource).
Creator Experience and Customization
Can I create learning products or manage my site using the app?
No, the Thinkific Mobile App does not support school administration. Site Owners and Admins (and users with other roles other than Student) will need to use the web version of Thinkific.
If I update or add new content, will it reflect in the Thinkific Mobile App?
Yes! However, you won't be able to make any changes from within the app. Any changes you make must be done on the web (browser) version of your site, and they will then be reflected for your audience in the Mobile App!
How do I make my products available on the Mobile App?
To make your products available on the Mobile App, you'll need to enable Mobile from the Settings in your Admin Dashboard. To learn more about how to do this, visit our article: Increase Engagement With the New Thinkific Mobile App.
How do I add my logo to the login screen or change brand colors in the Thinkific app?
The app follows all branding as set by the default course player/community color. For detailed instructions, see: Style and Logo Settings for Your Mobile App. If you are using a Branded mobile app, you can customize your app with your choice of primary colors, text colors, button styles, and more to suit your design preferences.
Can the app be enabled in dark mode?

Do the Thinkific Mobile app and Branded apps support all languages?
Both the Thinkific mobile app and Branded apps support the following languages: Chinese - Traditional, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Latvian, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese - Brazil, Romanian, Russian, Slovenian, Spanish, Spanish - Mexican, Swedish, Turkish, Vietnamese.
The language setting for the mobile app is determined by the language of the device and applies to the default text only (e.g. buttons, tab names, etc).
Branded Mobile App
What are some unique Branded Mobile features?
See this article for the list of exclusive Branded Mobile features: Branded Mobile-Only Features.
Can I have more than one branded app?
Yes, you can have more than one branded app. Each app incurs a monthly fee and is specific to a Thinkific site (not multiple sites).
How much maintenance will I need for the app? Who will supply update files or patches?
You will own and have the power to edit the look and feel of their app store listing and respond to reviews.
The great news is that there is no maintenance required from you when it comes to the app functionality! We have a dedicated team who are regularly making improvements to the functionality of the app, supporting all technical improvements and ensuring the app runs well for your audience.
Can I start with the Thinkific app and then switch to a Branded app later?
Yes! You are welcome to try our Thinkific mobile app first and switch to a Branded app after. The Branded app will have your own name, branding, and app store listings, so your students will need to download it separately from the Thinkific mobile app.
Apple / Google is asking me to update the agreements. What does it mean?
Both Apple and Google require you, as the account owner of your app store accounts, to agree to certain terms and conditions to make use of their app stores. Occasionally, brand new agreements or new versions of an existing agreement become available and must be signed before we can upload a new version of the app. Follow the instructions below to sign these agreements: Branded Mobile: Navigate Your App Listings.
Note that failure to sign these agreements can lead to the delay in new version rollout for your app.
