Learn how bandwidth works on Thinkific, what impacts your usage, and how to manage your bandwidth effectively to support your business as it scales.
About Bandwidth Usage
Bandwidth refers to the amount of data used when your customers watch your course videos and videos uploaded to your communities on Thinkific, including videos uploaded by learners to community posts. As your videos receive more views and longer watch times, your bandwidth usage increases.
To better support your growth, Thinkific plans include clear monthly bandwidth limits. These limits are designed to align with how much video content your customers are consuming. If you go over the bandwidth included in your current plan, it may simply mean your business is growing and the best way to support this growth is by upgrading to a plan that gives you more bandwidth volume, features, and value. There are also options available to help you manage and reduce your bandwidth usage.
Plan Limits
Monthly bandwidth limit per plan are as follows:
- Basic 100 GB
- Start 200 GB
- Grow 400 GB
- Expand 1,000 GB
- Plus Lite 7,500 GB
- Plus Silver 10,000 GB
- Plus Gold 15,000 GB
- Plus Platinum 20,000 GB
- Enterprise 25,000 GB
How to Check Your Bandwidth Usage
If your bandwidth usage is over your limit, you will be able to see clear usage vs. limit visibility through a customized bandwidth dashboard from your Admin Dashboard:
- Go to Analytics
- Select Account Usage
This dashboard will only be available to customers who are over their bandwidth usage limit.
You will be notified well in advance if you have reached a bandwidth limit, along with recommended next steps to ensure you’re set up to avoid disruptions.
In addition to the account usage dashboard, you can utilize the Video Engagement dashboard (available on Grow and above) under Thinkific Analytics to review video-specific engagement across your courses. Learn more about this dashboard: Video Engagement Reporting
What Happens If You Exceed Your Limit
If you exceed your monthly bandwidth limit, you will be notified within your Thinkific admin dashboard, and through email. You will be given clear options and next steps, and will have up to 60 days to review your options and take action before any restrictions would apply.
If no action is taken and your usage remains above what is included in your plan, your account may move into a restricted state. In that case, your customers can still access your existing course content, but your Thinkific admin will be temporarily paused until your account is aligned with the appropriate setup.
How to Reduce Your Bandwidth Usage
If your account is using more bandwidth than is included in your plan, there are steps you can take to bring usage back down.
