How It Works

Did you start working on Empire and decide you prefer the look of Vogue or Vision instead? No problem. You can install a new theme and transfer all of your work over!

All of the following content will transfer from your original theme to your new theme:

Note that any code customizations made to your original theme will not transfer over.

Install a New Theme and Transfer Content

To get started, you'll simply need to install a new theme. When installing a new theme, you'll have the option to copy content from a currently installed theme to your new theme.

Installing a new theme does not replace your existing theme automatically. Once you have installed the new theme, you will be able to review the contents and make any changes you want before publishing. Your current theme will also still be there, in case you change your mind.
  1. Go to Channels
  2. Select Theme Library
  3. Select the Explore Themes tab
  4. Click View Details on your theme of choice
  5. Click the Install button on the bottom right
  6. Now you'll see a popup with the option to transfer your data; select Yes, copy my content
  7. Select your original theme from the dropdown menu
  8. Click Got it

Review Your Installed Theme

Your theme should take just a few minutes to install, after which it will appear in the My Themes tab of your Theme library. The new theme will appear at the bottom of the page, under My installed themes. Click Build to review and make edits to the theme and click Publish when you are ready to make it live!

Important Considerations

The prompt to copy content will only appear when you first install a new theme from the Explore themes tab. If you want to transfer your content to a previously-installed theme, you will need to delete that theme from your Theme library and then re-install it.

See How to Delete a Theme here and if you would like to make a backup first, see How to Export Your Theme.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it possible to see what my site will look like in the new theme before it goes live?

Of course! When you install a new theme, it does not publish immediately. You will see the new theme under My installed themes in your Theme Library and can click Build to explore the theme first. Once you are happy with it, you can click Publish to set it as your live site.

Can I return to the original theme without anything getting lost in the transfer?

Yes! When you publish your new theme, your original theme will still appear under My installed themes in your Theme Library. You can always publish it again from there, just like you did with your new theme.

I have an imported theme and don't see the option to transfer content.

Our theme transfer option will only work on themes originally installed from the Explore themes tab. If you have imported themes, these will not be recognized as original themes.
