About Mailchimp
Mailchimp is a free email marketing tool that offers a wide range of features to help small businesses do big things. Installing the Mailchimp app will allow you to automatically add your Thinkific students to a Mailchimp email list, allowing you to focus your time and energy on building out your email marketing content!
Install the MailchimpApp
Follow the instructions below to connect the Mailchimp app:
- Optional: You will need a Mailchimp account to install the app, so we recommend you sign up for one or have your login information handy before getting started.
- Locate the Mailchimp App in the Thinkific App Store
- Click to Install the app
- This will return you to the Mailchimp app details page in Thinkific - click Connect Account
- You will be redirected to Mailchimp’s login page
- Input your Mailchimp login information, and click Allow to authorize the app
- Once you've successfully logged into Mailchimp, you'll be taken back to your Apps page
- Locate Mailchimp under your Installed Apps, and click Settings
- Under Account, use the drop-down menu to select a target Mailchimp list
- Save button
And that's it! You are ready to use the Mailchimp app to connect with your audience.
Use the Mailchimp App
After the app is installed, whenever a new lead or user account is created with your Thinkific site, that person's first name, last name, email address, and subscription status will be sent to your mailing list in Mailchimp.
Your Mailchimp list must not include any required fields or else adding users to the selected list will fail as Thinkific only sends first name, last name, email address, and subscription status.
All users with user accounts will appear in Mailchimp with a Subscribed status. Leads will only appear with a Subscribed status if they have opted in to hear more from you when submitting their information (by submitting the form and, if they are in the EU, by checking the corresponding box) Learn more here: How to Generate Leads and Capture Emails.
Import Existing Users into a Mailchimp Subscribers List
Only users and leads created after the app is connected will be automatically added to the Mailchimp list. If you need to import your existing users into an existing Mailchimp subscriber list, you can export users and leads into a CSV and import them directly from your Mailchimp account. Disconnect the Mailchimp App
If you connected the wrong account or need to switch accounts, you'll need to uninstall the Mailchimp app and reinstall it using the correct account information. Revoking access to Thinkific will immediately stop new students from being added to your Mailchimp list. If you plan on reconnecting the same Mailchimp account, you'll want to make sure to do so right away to ensure new sign-ups are added to your list!
Step 1: Revoke Thinkific Access in Mailchimp
- Log in to Mailchimp
- Click your profile image and choose Account

Click the Extras drop-down menu and select API keys
- Scroll down to the Authorized Applications section
- Click X next to Thinkific
- If you scroll down again, you'll see Thinkific will now be missing from the list

Frequently Asked Questions
I have multiple mailing lists, who can I connect all of them to Thinkific?
Our direct Mailchimp integration is a simple way of making sure that any of your Thinkific users are automatically added to your Mailchimp account. If you're looking to have users sent to different lists based on which course they enroll in for example, that can be handled via our integration with Zapier.

Can I use Mailchimp's double opt-in functionality with this app?
The app does not support Mailchimp's double opt-in feature at this time. If you have double opt-in turned on in Mailchimp, new sign-ups will not be added to your Mailchimp list, so make sure you are using their single opt-in option instead. If you would like students to agree to be added to your mailing list, we recommend incorporating this into your Terms of Use and making this a required checkbox on your sign-up page.

Can I use Mailchimp's double opt-in feature if I integrate Thinkific and Mailchimp using Zapier?
The double opt-in feature will need to be turned off in Zapier when creating a zap between Thinkific and Mailchimp. If the double opt-in is enabled, a student will be added to the audience in Mailchimp, however, they will not be sent a confirmation email.
