Using Hover's Connect Feature
With Hover, we have a quick and easy option to set up your Thinkific site using their Connect feature! Using their Connect feature, if you purchase a domain through Hover, you can easily set up your Thinkific site be to be accessible at www.your-new-domain.com.
When adding a custom domain to Thinkific, it requires a subdomain. A subdomain precedes your main domain name. For example in www.your-new-domain.com, www is the subdomain. When using Hover's connect feature, your domain will automatically be set up with www. If you prefer a unique subdomain see Set Up Using a CNAME Record.
- First, log into Hover, and choose Domains from the Your Account dropdown:
- If you have more than 1 domain, select the domain you would like to use to set up your custom URL for your Thinkific site. Otherwise, once in your domain, click into the Connect tab.
In this example, our custom domain purchased from Hover is steely-muskrat.com - Find and select Thinkific in the list of applications.
- You'll see a screen like the one below where all you need to do is input your Thinkific site URL, click connect, and Hover does the rest for you!
If you're not sure what your Thinkific site URL is, you can find this in your Thinkific account under Settings > Site URL. For the purpose of this example, our Thinkific site URL is mysite.thinkific.com - Hover automatically creates your new custom domain for your Thinkific site at www.your-new-domain.com Following our previous example, the new custom domain that we add to our Thinkific site, is www.steely-muskrat.com.
See the following instructions for how to return to Thinkific to add your new domain and test out your changes!

Using a CNAME Record
If you decide that you want your custom domain for your Thinkific site to be available under something other than the www subdomain, you will need to do this by manually adding a CNAME record in your Hover account. A subdomain precedes your main domain name. For example in courses.your-new-domain.com, courses is the subdomain. Other than www, popular subdomain choices include learn, or courses.
For example, if I own the domain steely-muskrat.com and want to have my Thinkific site available at courses.steely-muskrat.com, I will need to do this using a CNAME record.
- Log into Hover, and choose Domains from the Your Account dropdown:
- If you have more than 1 domain, select the domain you would like to use to set up your custom URL for your Thinkific site. Click on the DNS tab:
- From there, click on the Add A Record button:
- In the pop up, select a CNAME record from the dropdown and complete the fields:
- Hostname: your desired subdomain; following our example, we used courses
- Target name: your Thinkific site URL (without the https://); following our example, it would be yoursite.thinkific.com
- TTL: leave as the default
- Once you have connected your CNAME record, refer to the following articles for testing out your changes and setting your custom domain as the primary domain for your site!
