There are several options for screencasting - if you're not sure what option to use, or where to begin, check out the article below for some helpful information on best practice for screencasting!
Advanced Users
If you're already familiar with screencasting software, two of the most developed, complete options are:
- Camtasia Studio for Mac and PC,
- and ScreenFlow for Mac
Both of these options do have a moderate price tag however, and might be overkill for simple use cases.
Intermediate Users
For the intermediate users, our two suggestions are:
- Screencast-O-Matic - great, inexpensive, web-based screen recorder for Mac and PC (and it's the go-to choice for several of our staff)
- CamStudio - free software available for Windows. It does not have extended features, but it gets the job done and works well
New/Basic Users
For users who are either new to screencasting software, or do not require advanced features or setup, we recommend:
- QuickTime Player (which comes built-in on Macs, and is available for Windows here) is reportedly able to do screen recording, but features are limited. It is, however, free.
Other Options
Finally, if you happen to run Ubuntu Linux, we recommend Kazam. This program should also work on other (non-Ubuntu) Linux desktops.
