About App Maintenance

Thinkific will provide regular updates for your branded mobile app once it is live. In order for us to update your app in a timely fashion, please ensure that you're regularly performing these steps as needed. Each new version of your branded mobile app will include improvements and bug fixes that will enhance your student experience. This article will outline steps and procedures to keep your branded mobile app in good health.

Apple and Google will email the account holder of your accounts when they require action. We recommend using an email address that you check frequently when you create these accounts.

Example subject lines might include the following:

  • (Apple) Updated Agreements Now Available
  • (Apple) Updated Apple Developer Program License Agreement now available.
  • (Apple) Action Required: Apple Push Notification Service Server Certificate Update
  • (Apple) Action Required: <account name>, your apps could be removed from the App Store in the EU.
  • (Google) [Action Needed] There is an issue with your developer account, <account name>
  • (Google) [Final notification] <account name>, your Play Console developer account has been closed
  • (Google) Notification from Google Play about <account name>

Keep Your Apple Account Up to Date

Apple periodically updates the Apple Developer Program License Agreement and the Paid Apps Agreement. When these updates are released, the account owner must review and accept them.

Until they’re accepted, Apple may block app updates from Thinkific. To avoid delays, it’s important to accept new agreements as soon as Apple makes them available.

Accept Agreements in Apple Developer

  1. Sign in to your Apple Developer account

  2. If action is required, you’ll see a prompt at the top of the page

  3. Click Review Agreement

  4. Read through and click Agree

If no prompt appears, your agreements are already up to date.

Accept Agreements in App Store Connect

  1. Sign in to your App Store Connect account

  2. Navigate to the Business page

  3. If action is required, you’ll see a prompt at the top of the page

  4. Click Review Agreement

  5. Read through and click Agree

Each item should show as 'Active' in the Status column.

Keep Your Google Play Account Up to Date

Google requires that the account owner and organization's identity be verified before we can publish or update your branded mobile app. Google may require new verification steps or to verify additional identity information if your legal information has been updated. Follow the instructions below to update this information.

Verify Your Identity or Organization in Google Play Console

  1. Sign in to your Google Play Console
  2. Review the space under your organization name for any outstanding identity verification steps

Make an Update to Your App

Update App Branding Colors

Your app's branding colors can be updated at any time from your Thinkific admin! To do so:

  1. In your Thinkific Admin, navigate to Channels > Mobile App > Your Branded App
  2. On the Branding tab, select the new colors you would like reflected in your app
  3. Click Save changes

Update App Logo or App Listing

Through the course of owning your branded mobile app, you may want to update your app logo, or your app's listing in some way. If you want to update your app, we'll take care of this change request for you. To do so:

  1. Contact us to initiate your change request
  2. Include the details of what you want to change, for example:
    1. Provide a new, high-resolution square app logo
    2. Provide the specific copy of how you want your listing changed, for example:
      1. "Remove X and X from the app description"
      2. "Update the subtitle on my Apple app from X to Y"

Ensure that all of your agreements and identity verification steps are complete before submitting a change request. We cannot publish changes until your accounts are up to date.

In order for us to complete your update, we must wait for a new version of the branded app to be available. Apple does not allow us to update a listing without a new app version.

Important Considerations

  • Changing your custom domain may result in learners being unable to log in to your app. To prevent this, we recommend contacting us before changing your custom domain.
  • When updating your app's name or description, we recommend reviewing Google's guide: Best practices for your store listing, to ensure your updates follow the guidelines for approval
