Question
- Am I impacted by Stripe's Restricted Business term update?
- Will my Stripe be deactivated if I sell online content?
- Stripe's Restricted Business definition
- Stripe's online content definition
Solution
In May 2024, Stripe has updated their definition of restricted businesses to include the following:
Content creation
Content creation-related transactions
- Content-related tips and gifts
- Purchases of access to exclusive content or digital goods
We understand that this might cause confusion. We have partnered with Stripe to provide some clarity on how it impacts creators and businesses on Thinkific:
- The update resulted from the verbiage clarification of underwriting policies. The actual policy did not change.
- The existing policy restricts businesses with transactions that provide compensation to creators without an underlying piece of digital content associated. Examples include subscriptions to free, public content or a tip button on a profile page.
- As such, there are no changes to the existing requirements for native Stripe integration or Thinkific Payments.
- Businesses selling digital products on Thinkific are not impacted, as long as they comply with Stripe's existing prohibited and restricted business policy.
Important Considerations
- Your business must comply with Stripe's prohibited and restricted business policy.
