Recommended Course Pricing
When onboarding your course to Spotify, you’ll set a retail price for each course being licensed to the platform. Spotify will calculate your payout using this retail price.
Below are the guidelines for setting your course prices
A La Carte Content on Your Platform
Courses sold on Thinkific (or another LMS) must carry the same retail price on Spotify.
- If your course is offered as a one-time payment elsewhere (e.g., on Thinkific or any other LMS platform), the retail price given to Spotify must exactly match the current price of the other platform.
- If you are running a discount on the other platform, the retail price given to Spotify must match the discounted price.
Subscription-Based Content
If your courses are part of a monthly subscription plan on Thinkific (or another platform), the retail price for each course should not exceed the monthly subscription cost.
This ensures alignment between the perceived value on Spotify and your own platform, avoiding pricing inconsistencies that could confuse or deter learners.
Free Content on Other Platforms
If any of the courses licensed to Spotify are available for free elsewhere, such as on YouTube, or your Thinkific site, the retail price provided to Spotify must be set to $0 (free).
This maintains fairness in Spotify’s marketplace and prevents users from paying for content that is accessible elsewhere at no cost.
Important Considerations
-
Taxes (e.g., VAT) are handled separately by Spotify and added on top of the price you set.
-
Aligning your pricing strategy across platforms helps maximize transparency and trust with Spotify users, who may be unfamiliar with your brand.
-
This pricing model ensures that:
-
Learners get fair and transparent pricing.
-
Your payouts are reflective of your course’s market value.
-
Spotify maintains a consistent and competitive course marketplace.
