What is a Branded Mobile App?

The Branded Mobile App is a white-labeled mobile solution built and maintained by Thinkific on your behalf. It gives your audience on-the-go access to your courses and communities through an app that reflects your brand identity across every channel.

Unlike the standard Thinkific Mobile App, the Branded Mobile App includes your own Google Play Store and Apple App Store listings, your brand name, colors, app icon, and loading screen, automatic app updates, and support for in-app purchases.

To set up your own Branded mobile app, you will partner with the Thinkific team to build and publish it. Once your app is built, approved, and released, your students will be able to download your app from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.

After downloading and installing the app, your audience can access their learning products, participate in communal learning interactions, and enjoy fast, easy, on-the-go access to materials they need, all within the app that extends your brand identity across all learning channels.

Your Own App Store listings

The Branded Mobile app solution allows you to publish your own white-labeled app on your personal Google Play Store and Apple App Store listings. This makes it easy to increase your brand visibility and recognition in the app stores, making it easy for your audience to discover your branded mobile app.

Once the Thinkific team sets you up with your own branded app, you have control of when and how you release your app to your audience, how you position your app, or how you respond to your app reviews.

Automatic App Updates

When new app versions are created, they will automatically be submitted for review and pushed live to your app store listings on your behalf - saving you time and getting the latest and greatest app version in your audience’s hands faster than ever.

In-App Purchases

Take your audience’s learning journey to new heights! Your users can now expand their skills by purchasing select products directly within your mobile app. With Apple and Google Play’s in-app purchase systems, students can easily tap, purchase, and get access to their products.

Revenue from in-app purchases will be deposited directly into your bank accounts from the app stores. You can also see all purchases made from within your branded app, by going to the Orders tab of your Thinkific site.

This feature is exclusive to creators using Branded apps. For most Branded apps, in-app purchases will be required for your app to be approved in the app stores.

Get Started with Your Branded Mobile App

Follow the steps below to prepare your accounts and purchase the Branded Mobile App. Make sure you complete the preparation steps before purchasing, as some steps, like obtaining a D-U-N-S number, can take up to 30 days.

Step 1: Prepare Before Purchasing the Branded Mobile App

Please ensure that you complete the following before purchasing the app:

  1. Apply to receive a D-U-N-S number. See more: Branded Mobile: Why Do I Need an Apple Organization Account?
  2. Set up your Apple / Google accounts. Follow these instructions to set up your Apple App Store and Google Play Store accounts.

It can take up to 30 days to receive a D-U-N-S number, which is required for the Apple and Google account setup. Setting up these accounts in advance greatly expedites the app-building process.

Step 2: Purchase the Branded Mobile App Add-On

Once you have received your D-U-N-S number and completed the Apple and Google accounts set up, you can purchase the Branded Mobile App add-on and get started by following these steps:

  1. From your Admin Dashboard, select Channels
  2. Select Mobile App
  3. Click on Your Branded App tab
  4. Select the desired billing option (monthly or annual)
  5. After selecting a monthly or an annual option, confirm your payment details and review your order
  6. Accept Terms of Service and select Purchase

You will be charged for the Branded Mobile App add-on right away.

Step 3: Complete the Required Setup Tasks After Purchasing the Branded Mobile App

Once your add-on purchase is confirmed, you will see the list of required tasks. You need to complete these tasks before our team can start building the app:

  1. Get a D-U-N-S number: should be completed before purchasing, see Step 1 here.
  2. Set up your Apple / Google accounts: should be completed before purchasing, see Step 1 here.
  3. Fill out your information and connect your accounts: fill out your personal and App Store / Play Store listings information by navigating to Channels > Mobile App > Your Branded App > App Information
  4. Connect your Apple App Store and Google Play Store accounts by navigating to Channels > Mobile App > Your Branded App > Connect and supplying the necessary keys

  6. Click Build My App

Can Thinkific create my Apple and Google accounts for me when setting a Branded Mobile app?

Because your organization is listed as the app developer (instead of Thinkific), you have to create the Apple and Google accounts. There are also important details that only you can upload and access, like banking and tax information.

Do I need any coding skills to start with the Branded Mobile app?

Not at all. Thinkific will manage app improvements and updates for you.

How do version updates work with the Branded Mobile app?

We automatically update your Branded app for you. We continuously workingo on updating the app and frequently release new versons that have minor performance enhancements, usability improvements, new features, and bug fixes. When we make a major update, we resubmit the app for Apple and Google to review.

What happens if Apple or Google rejects my submission of a Branded Mobile app?

In the unlikely chance of a rejection of your Branded Mobile app, we'll handle the communication with Apple and Google for you.
