Why can't I change the private setting for my Community?

Question

  • I want to make my community Private, but I cannot.
  • Why can't I set my community to Private?

Solution

Only communities that are available for purchase can be set to Private. This means that you will not be able to set the course to Private if your community access setting is set to:

  • Students in selected courses or bundles
  • Students in selected groups

How to Access Your Community Access Settings

  1. Select Products then Communities from your Admin Dashboard
  2. Select a Community, click on the Ellipses, and then Edit
  3. Select the Access section under the Settings tab

The option will be greyed out until you set the access setting to Students who purchase this community.

Before updating your access settings, make sure to review Communities: Access and Enrollments for impact on existing students when updating access settings.

Important Considerations

  • When you create a new community, its access setting is set to All students that are logged into your site by default. 
  • Any community can be set to Hidden, regardless of its Access settings.
