Question
- Why does Thinkific require my Social Security Number to set up Thinkific Payments?
-
Do you require the full SSN or just the last 4 digits?
-
Is the SSN stored securely?
Solution
As a payment partner of Stripe, Stripe requires a Social Security Number (SSN) as part of their "Know Your Customer" (KYC) obligations to prevent abuse of the financial system. Creators based in the USA are required to provide their full SSN when setting up their Thinkific Payments account to match and confirm their identity with the IRS. The SSN will need to be the same as the details of the owner, or the beneficial owner if the Creator is using their Thinkific site as an incorporation or LLC.
Your SSN will not be stored in our system and is handled securely by Stripe.
