How Stripe Capital Works

Stripe Capital is powered by Stripe's own underwriting model, which evaluates your Thinkific Payments processing history to determine eligibility. If you're eligible, you'll receive a prequalified offer by email from Stripe. You can review and apply for  the offer in minutes through a Stripe-hosted application page. Applying for financing through Stripe Capital might require a personal credit check under some circumstances, but this credit check doesn't affect your personal credit score. All financing applications are subject to review prior to approval.

If approved, funds are disbursed directly to your connected bank account, typically within a few days. Payment happens automatically: a fixed percentage of each future Thinkific Payments payout is withheld until the financing is paid, so there are no manual payments to schedule or track. All offer communications, the application itself, and ongoing financing management happen on Stripe-hosted pages - Thinkific doesn't build or host any part of this experience.

Important Considerations

  • Eligibility is assessed entirely by Stripe using your Thinkific Payments processing history.
  • Only Thinkific Payments customers with a US-based connected account are currently eligible.
  • At this time, customers using the QuickBooks or Xero integration are not eligible for Stripe Capital.
  • Financing offers, applications, and financing management all happen on Stripe-hosted pages - your Thinkific dashboard does not display an application flow or financing management screen.
  • Your standard Legacy Payouts Report export is unchanged; a separate Capital Transactions file is included alongside it only if you have an active Stripe Capital financing offer.

How to Apply for Stripe Capital Financing

  1. Check the email address associated with your Thinkific Payments connected account for a message from Stripe about your prequalified Stripe Capital offer.
  2. Open the email and click the link to review your offer details, including the available financing amount and payment terms.
  3. Click Get Started to go to Stripe's hosted application page.
  4. Review the offer terms shown and confirm your connected bank account details are correct.
  5. Click Accept Offer to submit your application.
  6. Watch for a confirmation from Stripe - if approved, funds are typically disbursed to your connected bank account within a few days.

Disclaimer: All financing requests are subject to a final review prior to approval. Stripe Capital loans are issued by Celtic Bank, powered by Stripe. Stripe Capital merchant cash advances are provided by YouLend. See your Dashboard for the terms of your offer.

*Stripe Capital financing has a minimum amount due each payment period. If the amount that you pay through sales doesn't meet the minimum required, your bank account will be automatically debited the remaining amount at the end of the period.  If your financing has a fixed payment, Stripe stops withholding from your sales once you meet the fixed payment amount. Payment terms for your offer will be detailed during the application process.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I apply? / I wasn’t notified about being eligible but I want to apply.

There's no separate application to start. Eligibility is determined automatically by Stripe based on your payment history through Thinkific Payments. If you're eligible, you'll receive an email directly from Stripe with a prequalified offer. Thinkific can't manually trigger, check, or expedite eligibility on your behalf. If you believe you should be eligible and haven't heard anything, you'll need to reach out to Stripe directly.

How do I know this isn’t a scam?

A few things confirm it's legitimate: Stripe is already your payment processor for Thinkific Payments, so this offer is calculated from your real sales history, not a cold outreach. The financing itself comes from named, regulated partners (Celtic Bank for loans, YouLend for merchant cash advances).

Are Stripe customers in all countries eligible for Stripe capital? Does your business registration address impact eligibility?

Right now, Stripe Capital is available to Thinkific Payments customers with US-based connected accounts. That's specific to the integration Thinkific currently uses; other regions aren't supported at this time (although we are working on it and plan to make Stripe Capital available in more countries soon). Eligibility criteria beyond that, including how registration address factors in, is determined entirely by Stripe, so any deeper question there should go to their team.

I think I should be eligible, but I didn't receive an offer email. What should I do?

Stripe Capital eligibility is determined entirely by Stripe based on your Thinkific Payments processing history, and Thinkific cannot manually trigger or expedite an offer. If you believe you're eligible, contact Stripe directly at capital+support@stripe.com.

Can I decline an offer and apply again later?

Yes. Declining an offer doesn't opt you out permanently - Stripe re-evaluates eligibility for future offers based on your ongoing processing history.

Do I need to set anything up in my Thinkific dashboard before applying?

No. Stripe Capital requires no configuration on your Thinkific dashboard - you apply and manage your financing entirely through Stripe's hosted pages linked in your offer email.

I have active financing through Stripe Capital and have a question, or need to make a change. Who do I contact?

Since your financing, payment schedule, and account details are all managed on Stripe's hosted pages, Thinkific doesn't have visibility into your active Stripe Capital financing and can't make changes on your behalf. For questions about your current terms, payment status, or account changes, contact Stripe directly at capital+support@stripe.com.

What happens when my offer expires?

Each offer is available for 30 days. After that point, your business will automatically be re-evaluated to see if you’re eligible for an additional offer.

Who can I contact to learn more about the Stripe Capital program?

If you have additional questions about how our financing program through Stripe Capital works, you can contact our partners at capital+support@stripe.com.
