Introducing Shop with Cart: Buy Multiple Products in One Checkout

    Plan Availability
    Legacy Plans
    Platform

Shop with cart is a built-in feature that lets learners add multiple products to a cart and complete a single checkout — directly from your Thinkific product and landing pages. It is available on all paid plans with TCommerce (Thinkific Payments) enabled. You can turn it on from Settings > Payments with no API or custom development required.

Applies to:

  • Plan: Basic, Start, Grow, Expand, Pro, Pro + Growth, Premier, Plus
  • Requires: TCommerce (Thinkific Payments)
  • Role: Site Owner, Site Admin
  • Platform: Web

We are in the process of rolling out this feature to all eligible customers. If you do not see it on your site yet, stay tuned for the full release!

What's New

  • A native cart widget appears on your Thinkific product and landing pages — learners can browse products, add items, and complete a single multi-product transaction without leaving your site.
  • One payment, one receipt, and one order record cover all items purchased together.
  • Learners can remove items from the cart before checking out.
  • Once enabled, the option is available to new and returning learners.

How Shop with Cart Works

The Shop with cart feature is available on all paid plans with TCommerce enabled. To access the Shop with cart feature as well as other great TCommerce features, enable Thinkific Payments on your account: Thinkific Payments.

When Shop with cart is enabled, a cart icon and badge appear in your site navigation on product and landing pages. The badge updates as learners add or remove items. Cart contents persist across page navigation and browser reloads, so learners can continue browsing before committing to checkout.

Not all product types go into the cart. One-time paid products and free products can be added to the cart and purchased together. If Group Orders are enabled on your site, learners can select a quantity for each eligible paid product (free products are capped at 1). Products with subscription pricing, payment plan pricing, a free trial, or a free preview always route directly to their own checkout session — they cannot be combined with other products in a single cart transaction.

Getting Started

If you don't see the option to enable the multi-product checkout, TCommerce may not be active on your account. The feature is available auotmaitcally once Thinkific Payments are enabled. Learn how to do it here: Thinkific Payments.

The feature is disabled by default. To enable Shop with cart on your Thinkific account:

  1. From your Admin Dashboard, go to Settings
  2. Select Payments
  3. Select Shop with cart
  4. Toggle on Enable cart
  5. Select the Cart position to adjust the position of where the cart is displayed.

The cart widget appears on your Thinkific site immediately. To disable it, toggle the setting off — learners return to the standard direct-to-checkout experience.

This feature may not work as expected if you have customized your site theme or landing page template. Always test the purchase experience on your site before sharing it with your learners.

The Learner Experience

Once the cart widget is enabled, learners interact with it directly from your Thinkific product and landing pages.

Purchase Experience

  1. Adding products. Learners click the purchase button on any eligible product or landing page. The item is added to the cart without starting checkout immediately. If a product has multiple prices, the selected price is what gets added. If a learner attempts to add an item already in their cart, they will see a message notifying them it has already been added.
  2. Managing the cart. Learners can remove items from the cart widget at any time before checking out or adjust the quantity of selected seats in the cart.
  3. Checking out. When ready, learners open the cart widget and click Checkout. A single payment covers all items in the cart.

Post-purchase Experience

  • Automatic enrollment. A learner is automatically enrolled in all eligible products. If a learner makes at least one group order purchase, they will not be automatically enrolled in any of the selected products, but will have the option to claim a seat after checkout. Learn more: TCommerce: Group Orders.
  • Receipt. The learner receives one receipt covering all purchased products.

Your Experience

  • Order and transaction record. A shop with cart purchase creates a single order record.

  • Enrollment. Each product in the cart generates a separate enrollment for the learner.
  • Order notification. You will receive a new order notification (if enabled), covering all items in the transaction.

Important Considerations

  • Order bumps and gifting are not currently supported on shop with cart checkouts.
  • PayPal is not available for shop with cart checkouts.
  • Subscription products, payment plans, free trial subscriptions, and free previews always bypass the cart and route directly to their own checkout session.
  • Products set to Private will not be added to the cart.
  • Coupon codes apply per eligible product at checkout — a coupon provides a discount only on the items it applies to, not the entire order total.
  • If a guest buyer's email matches an existing account, any products they are already enrolled in are not processed and no duplicate enrollment is created. Learners with previously expired enrollments can re-purchase through the cart.
  • Taxes are automatically calculated on eligible products at checkout.
  • Meta Pixel's AddToCart event currently fires from checkout, not from the cart widget.
  • For developer-built cart experiences that don't use the widget, see: Set up the Multi-Item Checkout Experience using API.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can learners mix subscription and one-time products in the same cart?

No. Subscription products, payment plans, and free trial subscriptions always route to their own dedicated checkout. They cannot be combined with one-time products in a single cart transaction.

What happens if a learner adds a free product to their cart?

Free products can be added to the cart but are capped at a quantity of 1. They can be purchased alongside paid products in a single checkout transaction.

What happens when a product and a bundle containing the same product are added to the cart at the same time?

When a product and a bundle containing the same product are added to the cart at the same time, the system will allow learners to check out and purchase both products. The learner will be charged for the product and the bundle containing the product.

Is there a way to modify how the cart widget looks?

Not at the moment. You can change the position of the cart widget on your page, but there is no option to modify the color, font, and style of the widget. The widget will inherit the button color that is configured in theme settings.
