An AI agent says it cannot access your Thinkific school

How to fix: Your token may have expired or been revoked. Go to mcp.thinkific.com and reconnect. You will be prompted to authorize with your Thinkific school again. If you previously removed Thinkific MCP from your Thinkific Connected Apps settings, you will need to reauthorize from scratch.

You authorized Thinkific MCP but an AI agent does not recognize it

How to fix: The session may not have synced after authorization. In Claude.ai, close the conversation and start a new one, then toggle Thinkific on from the + panel. In Claude Desktop or ChatGPT Desktop, restart the app. If the issue persists, disconnect and reconnect by following these instructions: How to Connect Thinkific to Claude.

An AI agent returns no results when you ask about courses or learners

How to fix: Try a broader query first — for example, "List all courses" instead of searching by a specific name. If results are still empty, confirm your Thinkific role is Site Owner or Site Admin.

Authorization fails when you try to connect

How to fix: Confirm your Thinkific school is on the correct plan. Authorization is rejected at the token issuance step for schools on ineligible plans. If your plan is eligible and authorization still fails, try disconnecting any existing connection and reauthorizing: How to Connect Thinkific to Claude.

You see data from a different Thinkific school

How to fix: You may have been authorized with a different Thinkific account. Disconnect Thinkific MCP and reconnect, making sure to sign in with the correct school credentials during the authorization flow.

Thinkific MCP is not appearing in Claude.ai

How to fix: Confirm your Claude plan supports custom connectors — a Pro or Max plan is required for Claude.ai web. Team and Enterprise owners add connectors from Organization Settings → Connectors. If your plan is eligible, try adding the connector again from Customize → Connectors → + → Add custom connector using the URL https://mcp.thinkific.com.

Claude Desktop is not connecting

How to fix: Confirm Node.js 18 or higher is installed on your machine — Claude Desktop requires Node.js to run. Check that the claude_desktop_config.json file is correctly formatted with no missing commas or brackets. Restart Claude Desktop after any config change.

Important Considerations

  • Revoking access in Thinkific Integrations page immediately removes an AI agent's access. To restore access, follow these steps: How to Connect Thinkific to Claude..
  • Claude Desktop requires Node.js 18 or higher. The connection will silently fail if Node.js is not installed.

Still Having Trouble?

If the steps above don't resolve the issue, contact Thinkific Support and include your school URL, the AI client you're using, and a description of the error or behavior you're seeing.
