If you are concerned about content security and want to prevent students from selecting and copying text within your course, you can disable text copying at the course level. When enabled, learners will not be able to right-click or copy highlighted text in the Course Player — instead they will see a notification when they attempt to do so. This feature is only available in the Classic Course Builder. It is not available in the New Course Builder.

How to Disable Text Copying

  1. From your Admin Dashboard, select Products.
  2. Select Courses.
  3. Select the course you want to edit by clicking on the course card image.
  4. Select the Settings tab.
  5. Make sure Basic Settings is selected.
  6. Under Security, check Disable text copying.
  7. Click Save.

Lesson Types

When this setting is enabled, it disables text selection and copying in the following lesson types:

  • Text Lessons
  • Audio Lessons
  • Download Lessons
  • Quizzes
  • Surveys
  • Assignments

PDF lessons are not covered by this setting. Even if a PDF has its own copy protection applied, text that is visible in a PDF lesson can still be selected and copied by learners. If protecting the text content of your PDFs is important, consider delivering that content as a Text lesson instead.

Important Considerations

  • This feature does not prevent learners from taking screenshots or physical notes. It is not possible to completely prevent copying of content delivered in a browser.
  • Disabling text copying can affect the accessibility of your lesson content. Screen readers will remain usable, but browser context menu options such as Google's Speech option will not be available.
