About Theme Extension Apps
Some apps in the Thinkific App store give you access to additional options for customizing your website through Site Builder. These apps are collectively referred to as Theme Extension Apps, since they extend and expand on what you can do with your site. The most common way they do this is by providing new kinds of Site Builder sections, that you can add to individual pages.
How It Works
Once you have installed a Theme Extension app, any new sections or options it adds will automatically appear in Site Builder, the next time you go to Design Your Site. When you add a new section to a page, any sections provided by an app will appear at the very bottom of the list.
These sections will often interact directly with other parts of the app, allowing you to display information or accept app-specific input on any page where you place the section.
For example, the DropInBlog app lets you connect your site to a blog-management tool, where you can write and organize blog posts: it also adds several new Site Builder section options that let you display your blog content in a variety of ways.
Using a Theme Extension App
As with every app, you'll want to start by installing the app from the App Store, and reading the support documentation provided by the app developer. This should provide an overview of the app, and explain about any new sections or other options that will be added to Site Builder.
Once the app is installed, you can follow the instructions for adding a section to Site Builder. When you get to the step where you are choosing what section to add, scroll to the bottom of the list of sections to find any app-specific options.
Remember that like any Site Builder section, sections added by an app may only be available on specific Site Builder pages. If you aren't seeing the section in the list, make sure to check the app's documentation!
Uninstalling Theme Extension Apps
The most important thing to know about uninstalling Theme Extension apps is that when you uninstall the app, the Site Builder sections associated with the app will also be removed. This means that any customization you have done to those sections will also be lost. Any content you have added — for example, marketing copy promoting your blog or providing context for an email newsletter sign-up — will be removed, along with the section.
For this reason, we highly recommend you review any related sections before uninstalling a Theme Extension app, and making a copy of any customizations or content that you want to preserve.
Note that data used by the app and displayed in a custom section will not be affected by removing the section: only changes or additions that you have made to the section itself will be lost.
If you have specific questions about what will happen when you uninstall an app, you can read the documentation provided on the App's setting page, or email the app support email found on that same page.
