Working with a Thinkific Partner to migrate your Legacy theme? Check out common questions and important considerations below.
This is for course creators that are migrating from a Legacy (Pre-Site Builder) theme to Site Builder. Not sure if this applies to you? Learn more here.
Who are Thinkific Partners?
They are 3rd party consultants and agencies who have specialized expertise working with Thinkific and who have been vetted for their work.
Learn more about our Partner program here.
How will my Thinkific Partner help with my migration?
They will update your site with one of our new Themes (Vision, Vogue, or Empire) and also add customizations that are required to replicate the same experience you had developed with your original site.
While the work is ongoing, access to your site or courses will not be affected at all. Similarly, your students’ experience will also not be affected.
You will not notice they are working until the work is complete, when you will be able to preview the new version before deciding to publish.

Why do I have to move to a Site Builder theme?
We first launched Site Builder -- our current drag and drop website editor -- in April 2018. The complexity of managing older versions of the website builder (and the related themes) has become an obstacle to delivering the best possible product. By simplifying our offering and focusing on our newer themes, we can invest more in improving the experience of all users: developing more features, faster.
How long do I have to migrate?
You have until April 5, 2021 to migrate your theme to Site Builder.
What part of my site does this impact?
The migration tool will automatically move over your course and bundle landing pages, home page, custom pages, and any branding you’ve configured in your legacy theme. Your course content is not affected as part of this migration.
Where can I learn more about how this migration works?

How do I connect with a Thinkific Partner?
If your legacy theme has quite a few custom edits, we will reach out to you via email to recommend connecting with a Thinkific Partner. Working with a Thinkific Partner is completely optional and up to you! Make sure to check your email with next steps if you would like to work with a Thinkific Partner.
What is the process for this work?
First, your Thinkific Partner will request access to your site. You'll then need to grant access for them to review your current theme and get started on your Site Builder theme.
You can see how to grant access here: How to Grant Site Access to a Thinkific Partner
After you grant permission to your Thinkific Partner to access your site, the Thinkific Partner will first review your site and the work that is needed to be done. They will then reach out via email to confirm which new theme you would prefer and let you know that work is about to begin and approximately when it will be complete.
I have my own developer. Should I work with a Thinkific Partner or my own developer?
The benefit of working with your in-house developer is that they will know your site and the history of your customizations. This means they will be able to make future changes easily, and transfer those changes to a new theme if you choose to upgrade it in the future.
If your in-house developer is unavailable, a Thinkific Partner is a great resource to work with on a temporary basis. You can always check out our Thinkific Partners on our Experts Marketplace.
Can my Thinkific Partner completely rebrand my site?
If you are working with a Thinkific Partner that we have connected you with via email, they will only be making updates to your Site Builder theme to ensure you have the same customizations on your new theme as your legacy theme.
If you are looking for a rebrand or additional customizations, this is something you would need to work with them separately on. You might also be interested in reaching out to other Partners on our Experts Marketplace that specialize in branding or web design.
