Installing the Typeform App

Use Typeform to create a simple survey flow that automatically collects course reviews from your students that can be displayed on your Thinkific site!

About Typeform

Typeform makes people-friendly forms and surveys. With Typeform, turn a list of questions into a personalized conversation. Unlike regular forms, typeforms present respondents with one question at a time, resulting in more engagement, better data, and the opportunity to create beautiful, relevant, and meaningful interactions.

With the Typeform integration, Thinkific course instructors can easily create personalized and interactive typeforms to collect students' reviews and feedback on any of their courses. Whether it's for a mid-course check-in or a review upon course completion, the Typeform integration makes it easy to capture feedback so that instructors can learn how to improve their future course offerings!

Typeform is a 3rd party application that is not included with your Thinkific subscription. For support and pricing, please contact Typeform directly.

To install Typeform, visit the Thinkific App Store.

How It Works

When a student submits a review via Typeform, the review is automatically added to your course reviews area in Thinkific, which you can later display on any of your site pages.

You will first need to create a typeform that includes 4 elements:

A Short Text question for the Review Title - This is where your student will name their review.
Long Text question for the Review Details - This is where your student can add additional context and details.
Rating question or the Course Rating - This is the course rating out of 5. On your site pages, these are displayed with stars. For example, 5 out of 5 stars is the highest rating.
Email question to identify the student - An email address can be manually added by your student OR if you are sharing your typeform through a Thinkific automated email or directly within a course, you can use Hidden Fields to automatically populate this information.

Once created, you'll need to connect to Thinkific to map the fields listed above to your Thinkific course reviews.

Then you can simply share your typeform's unique URL to direct your students to the survey! You can do this by including the link in a course completion email, or even by creating a multimedia lesson to present the survey to your students as part of the regular course flow.

Important Considerations

Each typeform can only be mapped to a specific course. If you want to collect reviews for multiple courses, you will need to create a unique typeform for each and connect each typeform to your course of choice.
Each typeform will have its own URL. The URL appears at the top right of the typeform's Create page, or you can find by navigating to the Share section of the typeform. The URL will look something like this: https://thinkific.typeform.com/to/Mmn2UxI
If you are using Hidden Fields, the typeform URL will include the field names at the end of the URL like this: https://thinkific.typeform.com/to/Mmn2UxI#email=xxxxx.
You will need to replace any xxxxx in the URL with appropriate Thinkific variables, which are detailed in the instructions below.
Note that Typeform's Hidden Fields feature requires their Professional plan or higher and this is an optional setting. You do not need to include Hidden Fields to use your typeform with Thinkific.

Create Your Typeform

Now that you are ready to get started, you'll first need to create your Typeform!

Option 1: Share Your Typeform in a Thinkific Course Completion Email

Once you have created your review Typeform and connected it to Thinkific, you can include a link to your Typeform review in a course completion email. Course completion emails are fully customizable and when turned on, are automatically sent when a student completes 100% of your course.

Go to Support Your Students
Select Notifications
Select Course completion email on the left
Find the course you want to update, and click the Edit button to the right of that course
If this course does not currently have the course completion email turned on, select the toggle to move it to the right (a notification is on when the toggle appears yellow and is on the right)
In the email body, paste a link to the typeform review. The URL for the typeform appears on the top right of the typeform's Create page, and you can also find it in the Share section.
Optional: If you are using a Hidden Field to send through your student's email, replace 'email=xxxxx' with 'email={{user_email}}' in the URL. You can do the same for any other Hidden Fields using the available variables listed here.
Click the Save button to save your changes

If you would like to test this out, we recommend using (or creating) a test student account to double-check that everything is working properly. Make sure to complete 100% of the course in to trigger the course completion email.

Option 2: Display Your Typeform Within Your Course Using a Multimedia Lesson

You can also display your typeform directly within a course lesson using a multimedia lesson! This is a great option if you are looking to create an exit survey at the end of your course.

If you use this option, you may want to disable Chapter Completion Messages as these will also prompt students to review your course within the Course Player.

Go to Manage Learning Products
Select Courses
Click on the course you would like to add the lesson to
You will now be in the Course Curriculum area of the Course Builder
On the left-hand side, click Add Lesson
Select Multimedia
Name the Lesson Title as desired
In the lesson, select Use externally hosted content
Paste your typeform URL
Optional: If you are using Hidden Fields, edit the URL to replace 'xxxxx' with one of Thinkific's variables. For example if the URL includes email=xxxxx replace it with email={{email}}. Learn more about variables in multimedia lessons here.
Click Save
Optional: Add a custom icon and label for your lesson
To view your lesson, make sure to preview your course as a student to ensure everything is working as expected!

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add more question types to my survey?

Absolutely! Once you are familiar Typeform, you can use a similar set-up to send your students any kind of survey or add additional questions to your existing course review survey. Typeform also provides great options for reviewing all answers directly within Typeform.

Why do I see multiple reviews from the same student?

Since this set up bypasses the built in Thinkific course review option, students can technically submit multiple reviews for the same course if they fill out your typeform multiple times. However, you always have the control over which reviews are approved as well as displayed on your site.
