Some Legacy themes have sections and customizations that will not be automatically migrated to your new Site Builder theme. Make sure to review the following before publishing your new theme.
This is for course creators that are migrating from a Legacy (Pre-Site Builder) theme to Site Builder. Not sure if this applies to you? Learn more here.

Depending on your Legacy theme, there are a few areas of your site that will need to be manually customized after using our theme migration tool. We have included detailed instructions below on specific customizations to consider.
Note that this is an overview for all Legacy themes, so you may see customizations that are not relevant to you. You'll only need to make updates to sections, code customizations, etc. if you were using these features in your Legacy theme.
Some sections will display or function slightly differently once migrating. Here are a few areas to make note of:
- Instructors will lose any text styling after migrating as the Instructor bio moves over to a new format, however you will still have all of your written content. If you want to add paragraphs or styling these will need to be customized after your Site Builder theme is published. Learn how to customize that here: How to Manage Instructor Profiles
- Bundle ‘tagline’ is applied to your Bundle description, which displays on your bundle card. The most common place students will see this description is during checkout. Edits to this can only be made after your Site Builder theme is published. Learn more here: Edit Your Course Card or Bundle Image & Course Description
- Course Content (V1, Ice Cream and Horizon themes) and Thank You Page Upsells (V1 themes) will not automatically migrate to your new Site Builder theme due to functionality changes. However you can create a new section with a similar function! Learn more here: How to Recreate Legacy Theme Sections in Site Builder
We also recommend reviewing the order that sections appear on all of your site pages and rearrange them if you'd like!
Course Card Images
Your course card images may need to be resized or cropped when migrating to your new Site Builder theme. If any of your cards look stretched, you can simply download your image, re-upload and crop it to the correct dimensions!

SEO meta tags and keywords for custom pages will not be migrated as we have updated the fields available on these pages.
Meta tags are typically used to specify how your page appears on social media and search engines. We've simplified this so that from a Site Builder custom page, you can simply upload the image you would like displayed!
The page title and description will not be affected and will automatically populate with what you had in your Pre-Site Builder Page SEO settings.

If you have customized your theme code, this will not be migrated to Site Builder. We've compiled a list of the most common code customization with instructions on how to apply those to your new Site Builder theme here: Common Code Customizations in Legacy Themes
Header Links Alignment
You may also want to make some adjustments to the alignment of your header links based on what you had on your legacy theme. Check out how to update that here: Customize Your Site Header
Home Page Customizations
By default, your new home page will include a banner as well as a list of your courses just like your previous theme. However, with Site Builder, you can now you can fully customize your home page. You can edit or remove the existing sections as well as add additional sections! Learn more here: Build Your Home Page
Home Page Redirect
If you have only one published course, your legacy theme will automatically redirect your home page to that course's landing page. Site Builder themes won't do this by default, so you will need to Redirect Your Home Page manually once the migration is complete.
Review Your New Theme
Before publishing your new theme, make sure to review all your pages in Site Builder to ensure you are happy with all of your customizations. Here's a high level view of what we recommend looking over:
Exporting Your Legacy Theme
As best practice, we recommend keeping a back up of your legacy theme in the case that you or a developer ever need to refer to it.
Once you publish your Site Builder theme, your Legacy theme will still be listed within your Theme Library, but cannot be manipulated or edited in Thinkific when it is unpublished.
