If you're looking to take a break for a bit, cancelling your subscription will move your account to our Free plan - allowing you to maintain access to your account, and giving you the freedom to return at any time to continue where you left off!

Payments and Payment Processors
Overview
When you cancel your Thinkific subscription, your account is moved to the Free plan, which has no monthly fees. You will still have full access to one course - additionally, you can upgrade if you need access to paid features. To learn more about what to expect when cancelling your Thinkific subscription, read through the sections below.
Your Learning Products
When you cancel your subscription and move to the Free plan, you can expect the following changes to your Learning Products:
Courses
- The Free plan allows you to host one course. The course that will remain active and editable for you will be your top positioned course.
- The total number of hosted courses includes both published and unpublished courses. This means you can move either a published or an unpublished course to the top position if you want to have access to continue working on it.
Communities
- The Free plan allows you to host one community. The community that will remain active and editable for you will be your top-positioned community.
- Within the active community, you will be able to host two Spaces.
- The total number of hosted communities includes both published and unpublished communities. This means you can move either a published or an unpublished community to the top position if you want to have access to continue working on it.
Bundles
- Bundles are available on paid plans only, and will no longer function when you downgrade to the Free plan.
- Ensure that any subscription or recurring payments you have set up for these products are cancelled and the products are unpublished.
Memberships
- Memberships are available on paid plans only, and will no longer function when you downgrade to the Free plan.
- Ensure that any subscription or recurring payments you have set up for these products are cancelled and the products are unpublished.
Before you move to the Free plan, make sure to review the Before Downgrading: Checklist section at the bottom of this article. You'll want to make sure you've taken the right steps to re-order your products before downgrading so that you'll still have access to the one course and community you want to keep available for you to work on.
Payments and Payment Processors
When you downgrade to the Free plan, you can expect the following changes to your payments and payment processors:
- You will still have access to the TCommerce suite of business tools - including Thinkific Payments as a payment processor.
- As mentioned above, you will only have access to one course and one community (with two spaces).
- Ensure that any subscription or recurring payments you have set up are cancelled.
- If you want to delete your Thinkific account entirely, you will need to ensure all recurring and subscription payments are cancelled before doing so.
- Cancelling your Thinkific account will not affect the revenue that has previously been collected using the Stripe or PayPal integrations.
Any new accounts created on Thinkific will have Thinkific Payments set as their default payment processor, without the option to use Stripe. If you are thinking of coming back after a break and want to keep your current third party payment processor, moving to the Free plan will allow you to do this.
Custom Domain
- If you have set up a custom domain previously, it will no longer work when downgrading to our Free plan.
- Your site URL will return to your Thinkific URL.
If you are not sure what your Thinkific URL is, you can sign in to your site here and copy the URL from your browser bar or Site Settings. Your Thinkific URL will end in .thinkific.com
If you are having any issues accessing your Thinkific site once the custom domain is removed, please contact our Support Team.
Paid Features
Your site, one course, and one community with two spaces will still be available as part of the Core Features included with the Free plan.
- Any paid features and integrations that are not available on the Free plan will no longer function, however, they are still set up and will be available if you upgrade again!
- If you enabled a Mobile app solution on your site, your students will no longer be able to access your site through the app. They will need to use the browser version instead.
Training Site
Your access to the courses on the Thinkific Training Site is based on your subscription, so if you cancel your account, you will lose access to the courses at the time you cancel. If or when you upgrade back to a paid plan, this will reinstate your access to the courses associated with the plan level and any progress you had will be kept.
Before Downgrading
Before you move your account to the Free plan, go through the list below and make sure you've covered all the topics listed there. Once you have read through the list and are ready, you can cancel your subscription by moving to the Free plan.
-
We recommend re-ordering your products before downgrading so that your most important product in each category (course, community) is at the top.
-
Remember: the top-positioned product is the one that will remain active once you move to the Free plan, so make sure the one you want to continue working with is in that position.
-
Any additional products will still remain on your site, but will be in a locked state and cannot be edited.
-
- If you are planning to delete your account, make sure to manually cancel any recurring/subscription payments from your users.
- Before cancelling, we suggest removing your custom domain as your Primary domain. This will not be accessible once you move to the Free plan.
- Additionally, you have the option to change your site URL. If you have given out the URL previously, you can simply update it to make sure previous visitors won't see it.
