Note: Looking for more information about how the GDPR impacts course creators? Head here.
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is new European Union privacy legislation that impacts the way that businesses and organizations collect, use, and protect personal data. We're proud at Thinkific to have course creators from all over the world, including many from the EU! So whether you're creating courses from the EU, or the new legislation impacts your students, we've got your back. If you're feeling unsure of how this all affects you, not to worry! We're your partners in online education and want to make sure you succeed. The good news is that we’ll be 100% compliant when the new legislation takes effect.
How does the GDPR impact Thinkific?
GDPR mandates that we are able to meet and honour the regulations in the way that we operate our business.
Thinkific is required to show our commitments and adherence to GDPR through the contractual agreements we have with our customers, and requires certain contractual commitments when we use third parties to provide services.
We’re making sure that Thinkific and our customers are able to honor the rights of European clients and students related to their personal data.
We’re ensuring that our team has the expertise and knowledge to fully understand the ongoing impact of GDPR to our business, as well as yours.
What has Thinkific done to prepare for the GDPR?
Here at Thinkific, we’ve been working hard to ensure that we’re ready when GDPR takes effect. Here are some of the efforts that we’ve undertaken so far:
We’ve reviewed our policies and procedures that relate to data protection across the organization and identified any changes that we need to make.
We’ve started a review of all of our subprocessors of data to ensure that they are obligated to protect our data through policies and/or technological measures.
We’ve engaged members from across Thinkific to create and review our plan for GDPR compliance implementation.
What’s next in Thinkific’s preparation for the GDPR?
We’re hard at work to ensure that we’re completely prepared for the new GDPR legislation when it comes into effect on May 25, 2018. Until that time, we are going to be further evaluating our compliance, monitoring the impact of our new processes, and completing additional projects to validate Thinkific’s compliance.
In the coming month we’ll be:
Creating additional informational material to ensure that Thinkific customers who might be impacted by GDPR understand how to support their customers (take a look at this resource for more information about how course creators can prepare for the GDPR).
Continuing to work with our team at Thinkific, Thinkific customers, and third-party organizations that we work with as we continue to work towards compliance.
Rest assured that we’ve got your back when it comes to GDPR compliance. Part of our job as your partner for online education is to flag any changes in legislation that may affect you or your students. It’s all a part of what we do to make sure we stay the #1 platform for customer support, and a great resource for not only you, but also for your students!
