What is Quaderno?
Quaderno automates tax calculation and invoicing for your Thinkific courses. Any time a student subscribes to a course, Quaderno will automatically calculate the correct tax based on your customer's location, generate and send the invoice, and update your reports. With Quaderno, your business will automatically comply with local VAT, GST, and sales tax laws around the world.
Your course price will include taxes and each student pays the same rate regardless of location. Quaderno allows you to track what percentage of each enrollment is considered tax and must be remitted to your government.
Below, we include instructions for integrating Quaderno with your Thinkific site for payments taken via both Stripe and PayPal.

Integrating Quaderno for Stripe
To set this up, first make sure you have your Stripe account connected to your Thinkific site on the Integrations section of the Admin Dashboard (more info).
Integrating Quaderno for PayPal
If you're taking payment for your courses via PayPal, first make sure that you have followed these instructions to integrate your PayPal account with Thinkific.
In Quaderno, you'll just need to make sure the same Paypal account is connected.
Finally, in order for Quaderno to know your customers' locations, you need to make it so that this information is collected from students upon signing up to your site.
To do this, you'll need to create two required Custom Fields spelled exactly as follows:
Make sure to select field type Country list from the dropdown menu and set as required
- Postal code
Make sure the field type is Text field and set as required
Once you have integrated with Stripe and/or PayPal as well as your custom fields, your customer's Country and Postal code details will display on your Quaderno receipt. A receipt will automatically be generated for each payment received. If receipts are not automatically sent, you can also see how to activate autosend here : How do I configure auto-invoicing?
Note that with this set up, the customer will not see a breakdown of taxes when they view pricing in the checkout, however the receipt will break down the price and taxes for your customer:

Quaderno Checkout Option
If you prefer to add taxes on top of your prices depending on your customer's location, you can use Quaderno's Checkout.
Using Quaderno's checkout bypasses the Thinkific checkout, so you will still need to enroll students into your course after their purchase. Zapier works well to automate this and you can check out External Payment Solution: Managing Enrollments for other enrollment options!
How to Add a Quaderno Checkout Link to your Thinkific Page
Refer to these instructions on how to create a Quaderno Checkout link. Then you can customize your buy buttons on your landing pages to link to this custom checkout:
- Create your Quaderno Checkout link
- Copy the link
- Navigate to the desired Course landing page
- Select existing Banner section
- Select Add button
- Click Button label
- In Text field, input desired button text
- In Link field, select Custom URL
- In URL field, paste your Quaderno Checkout link
- Click Save
Now when visitors click on your Buy button, they will be taken to your Quaderno checkout:
Your Quaderno checkout link can be used in any Site Builder section that includes a button, like Banners and Call to action sections.
Set Your Course to Private
If you are using a custom checkout link, set your Course to Private to prevent users from using the default Thinkific checkout.
