About This Feature
Thinkific Student Engagement Reporting helps you gain valuable insight into how students are progressing through and engaging with your courses. Interested in comparing how your lesson content performs with students? Engagement analytics give you a high-level view of key course completion metrics. Take it a step further, and filter student data to explore what kinds of content drives your audience and where important student connections can be strengthened.
Report data is updated throughout the day so you can stay up-to-date with engagement trends. Please note that if you add or remove lessons from your courses, Student Engagment Reporting will dynamically update to reflect resulting changes in student progress and course completion percentages.
The Student Engagement Reporting Beta includes an Interactions Report that shows you how students are engaging with your content over time. You can see the number of enrollments, completion rates, and performance by lesson type
Within the report you can see different data visualization options, to help you analyze trends. This includes bar graphs, line graphs, and data cards. You can also filter all reports by various attributes.
How to Access Your Reports
You'll see it on the left-hand side of your Admin Dashboard. Simply click on Advanced Reporting Beta and you'll see the option to view Student Engagement.

Student Engagement Reports
Interactions
The Interactions Report features the main bar graph to visualize enrollments and completion rates over time. Immediately below the bar graph, you'll see the Average Days to 100% Completion and the Average Percentage Completed for the selected time period.
Additional graphs include:
- Lesson Statistics: Displays the total count of unique users' views per lesson, where each student's view is only counted once. These can help you analyze what content types are most successful with your students.
- Reviews: Here you can see an overview of the number of reviews for your courses as well as an average rating (1-5 stars).
- Quizzes: The Quizzes report displays completion rates for your quizzes. False means your student did not complete the quiz, while True means your student did complete the quiz. This is to help measure engagement specifically, it does not take into account if a quiz is graded or not.
Filtering Your Reports
Interactions
The Interactions Report can be filtered by Course Name and date range. You can also choose the unit of time displayed on the various graphs and charts.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why isn't all of my student data displaying in the reports?
If a student has recently enrolled or progressed through a course chapter or lesson, you may need to wait up to 24-48 hours to see this activity in your engagement reports.
Another possible reason student data may be missing is that a student's enrollment did not occur during the date range selected for the report. We suggest adjusting the date range for your report and re-checking the data.
Why do I see the label "sample data" with more students in the report than I have enrolled student accounts?
If you have fewer than 10 enrollments or are on an unsupported plan, you will see a message letting you know that 'you're looking at sample data'.
What do the Average Days to 100% Completion and Average Time data reports show?
At this time, the Average Days to 100% Completion and Average Time data show the total time from when a student enrolled in a course or clicked to start a chapter or lesson, to when that student finished the course, chapter, or lesson. This includes time not spent in the Thinkific Course Player or on your Thinkific site.
Please note that the Average Days to 100% Completion section will only account for complete courses. Any courses that are not at a 100% progress will not be counted.
I added content to my course and my student completion and progress rates went down. What happened?
If you add lessons to a course with enrollments, students working on the course will now have more lessons to complete. As a result, the percentage of your course that they have already completed will decrease. This is reflected in the Student Engagement Reporting, which will dynamically update student progress and completion percentages when you add or remove course content.
Please note that it may take up to 24-48 hours for your engagement reports to update when you add or remove new course content.
Are Thinkific Communities supported in this report?
